SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken
SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken is a German sports association based in Saarbrücken, Saarland. The largest club in the state, it is best known for its athletics department, and also fields an association football team. History The club was founded as ''Fussball Klub Saarbrücken'' on 8 May 1905 and within three months was re-christened ''Sport-Club Saar 05 Saarbrücken''. From 1919, the club played in the Kreisliga Saar, where it took out a championship in 1920, thereby advancing to the Southern German championship where it got knocked out in the group stage. In October 1933 ''SC'' joined ''Spielverein 05 Saarbrücken'', which was itself the product of the 1919 union of ''1. FC Germania 1905'' and ''SpVgg 1906'', to become ''SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken''. The club made a single season appearance in the first division Gauliga Südwest in 1934–35 and was immediately relegated after a last place finish. Saarlandliga
The Saarlandliga (English: ''Saarland league'') is currently the sixth tier of the German football league system in the German federal state of Saarland. It was a new league, introduced at the end of the 2008-09 season. In the past, the term ''Saarlandliga'' has unofficially been used for what was at times the Ehrenliga Saarland, the Amateurliga Saarland and, from 1978, the Verbandsliga Saarland. The new league however carries its name officially and is not known by any other name. Overview The league was introduced after a decision made by the ''Saarland Football Association'' on 31 May 2008. It was decided that the new league would be operating from the 2009-10 season onwards and slotted in between the tier-five Oberliga Südwest and, from then on, the tier-seven Verbandsliga Saarland. The Verbandsliga Saarland is currently the seventh tier of the German football league system in the German federated state of Saarland. Until the introduction of the Saarlandliga in 2009 it was the sixth tier, until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fifth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fourth tier. From the 2012-13 season onwards the league will be played in two regional divisions and the Landesligas below it increased in numbers from two to four. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings. This process can continue through several levels of divisions, with teams being exchanged between adjacent divisions. The Saarland Cup (German: ''Saarlandpokal'') is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football. The winner of the competition gains entry to the first round of the German Cup. It is limited to clubs from Saarland, however, teams from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga are not permitted to compete. A number of clubs from regions of Rhineland-Palatinate who border the Saarland also compete in the Cup, best known of these being the SV Hasborn who has won the cup twice. The Regionalliga Südwest ( en, Regional League Southwest) is the fourth tier of the German football league system in the states of Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It is one of five leagues at this level, together with the Regionalliga Bayern, Regionalliga Nordost, Regionalliga Nord and the Regionalliga West.
