SSLR 1 And 3
Schull and Skibbereen Light Railway 1 and 3 were two locomotives manufactured by Peckett and Sons in 1906 and 1914 respectively. They were the Schull and Skibbereen Railway's fifth and sixth locomotives, and took the numbers of withdrawn locomotives. History The first member of this class was numbered "No. 1" and named "''Gabriel''", replacing the original No. 1, named "''Marion''", which was scrapped on its arrival. The second locomotive in this class was also built by Peckett and Sons and delivered to the railway in 1914. This locomotive was numbered "No. 3" and originally named "''Consiliation''" but later renamed "''Kent''". This replaced the original No. 3, named "''Ilen''" which was scrapped when the new locomotive arrived. Both locomotives passed to the Great Southern Railways in the 1925 amalgamation. Peckett and Sons was a locomotive manufacturer at the Atlas Locomotive Works on Deep Pit Road between Fishponds and St. George, Bristol, England. Fox, Walker and Company The company began trading in 1864 at the Atlas Engine Works, St. George, Bristol, as Fox, Walker and Company, building four and six-coupled saddle tank engines for industrial use. They also built stationary engines and pioneered steam tramcars, the first being tested in Bristol in 1877. Much of their output was exported, mostly , with some , and . The Schull and Skibbereen Railway (also known as the Schull and Skibbereen Tramway and Light Railway) was a minor narrow gauge railway in County Cork, Ireland. It opened in 1886 and closed in 1947. The track gauge was a narrow gauge. The formal name of the company was ''The West Carberry Tramways and Light Railways Company Ltd''. Route The S&S's main line was 15 ½ miles long. The Bay of Islands Vintage Railway Trust (BOIVRT) is a heritage railway in Kawakawa, in Northland, New Zealand. The railway operates on part of the former Opua Branch railway. History The railway was formed as the Bay of Islands Scenic Railway, a private company, in 1985 following the withdrawal of New Zealand Railways Corporation services beyond Otiria. The service began with J 1211, a hired J class locomotive that was brought from Wellington and is now owned by Mainline Steam. The railway proved popular with tourists, and in the summer seasons of 1985–86 and 1986–87, J 1211 was used to haul three return trains a day.
