SRV Dominator
The SRV Dominator is the name given to a series of vehicles used for Reed Timmer, as featured on the Discovery Channel series ''Storm Chasers'' (SRV stands for Storm Research Vehicle). In April 2013, Reed Timmer, designer and operator of all three Dominator vehicles joined KFOR-TV's 4WARN Storm Team, all three vehicles collectively referred to by the station as "Dominator 4". The Dominator The Dominator was modified from a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe that was used during the 2008 storm chasing season and debuted in the 2009 chase season. The modifications included adding bulletproof sheet metal and transparent Lexan armor to protect against flying debris near tornadoes, and an external roll cage and racing-style safety harnesses in case of a vehicle roll. The SRV is not designed to intercept (due mainly to a lack of an anchoring system as employed on the TIV 2) but is able to get as close as "humanly possible" to tornadoes. Reed Timmer
Reed Timmer (born March 17, 1980) is an American meteorologist and storm chasing, storm chaser. He is known for starring in the Discovery Channel reality television series ''Storm Chasers (TV series), Storm Chasers'', as well as in the documentary film ''Tornado Glory'' and in the series ''Tornado Chasers (web series), Tornado Chasers''. He also worked with Mike Theiss in the reality television series ''Storms Rising'' on Disney+. Early life Timmer became interested in the weather at a young age, after experiencing a severe thunderstorm that reportedly dropped golfball-sized hail in his yard. Later on, Timmer participated in the Science Olympiad competition in middle school and high school. After graduating from Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, MI, in 1998, he began studying meteorology at the University of Oklahoma (OU). The tornado outbreak of May 18–21, 2013 was a significant tornado outbreak that affected parts of the Midwestern United States and lower Great Plains. This event occurred just days after a deadly outbreak struck Texas and surrounding southern states on May 15. On May 16, a slow moving trough crossed the Rockies and traversed the western Great Plains. Initially, activity was limited to scattered severe storms; however, by May 18, the threat for organized severe thunderstorms and tornadoes greatly increased. Timothy Michael Samaras (November 12, 1957 – May 31, 2013) was an American engineer and Storm chasing, storm chaser best known for his field research on tornadoes and time on the Discovery Channel show, ''Storm Chasers (TV series), Storm Chasers''.
