SKIF-CSP Izmailovo
SKIF-CSP Izmailovo (russian: СКИФ ШВСМ «Измайлово») is a Russian women's water polo team from Izmailovo, Moscow founded in 1991. Originally established as SKIF Moscow, it became a section of CSP Izmailovo in 2003. The team enjoyed its golden era through the second half of the 1990s, winning two European Cups in 1997 and 1999 in addition to four consecutive national championships between 1995 and 1998. SKIF also reached the 1998 and 2000 European Cup's finals, but it lost them to Orizzonte Catania and ANO Glyfada, and in 2001 it won the LEN Trophy. Founded in 1992 following the breakup of the Soviet Union, it is currently contested by ten teams. Kinef Kirishi is the competition's most successful team, having won its last 19 editions. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Izmaylovo District
Izmaylovo District (russian: райо́н Изма́йлово) is a district in the Eastern Administrative Okrug of the federal city of Moscow, Russia. Population: It is a historical part of Moscow, the ancestral land of the Romanov noble family. History The history of the village of Izmaylovo goes back to 1389. Since the days of Ivan the Terrible it was an estate of boyars in the Romanov family. In 1654, it was inherited by Alexis of Russia, who built a château on an artificial island around 1664—1690. At about the same time, in 1671—1679, a medieval church was rebuilt into ''Church of Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos''. Women's LEN Trophy
The Women's LEN Trophy is LEN's second-tier competition for women's water polo clubs. It was first held in 2000 as the LEN Women's Cup Winners' Cup. It was contested for many seasons by around 15 teams, which could qualify for it either directly due to high ranking in their domestic league or by being eliminated at certain stages of the Champions' Cup. After the last reformations in the European competitions system by LEN, only four teams contesting for the trophy, coming after elimination at that season's LEN Euro League quarterfinals stage. Uralochka won the first edition of the Russian Championship in 1992, and it subsequently won four more titles between 1999 and 2002, also reaching the final of the European Cup in 2000.
