Altenkirchener SG is a German football club from the city of Altenkirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate. The club was founded in 1909 as ''Sportverein Altenkirchen'' and in 1919 joined the gymnastics club ''Turnverein 1883 Altenkirchen'' which had established its own football department on 5 July 1883.Grüne, Hardy (2001). The Rheinlandliga is a German amateur football division administered by the Rhineland Football Association, one of the 21 German state football associations. Being the top flight of the Rhineland state association, the Verbandsliga is currently a level 6 division of the German football league system. Overview The Amateurliga Rheinland was formed in 1952 in the northern half of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Before its inception, three separate leagues operated in the area as the highest level of play. The league was a feeder league to the 2nd Oberliga Südwest. The Rhineland Cup (German: ''Rheinlandpokal'') is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football. The winner of the competition gains entry to the first round of the German Cup. It is limited to clubs from the northern part of Rhineland-Palatinate, however, teams from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga are not permitted to compete. It is one of two cup competitions in the state, the other being the South West Cup, which covers roughly the southern half of the state. 2013–14 Verbandspokal
The 2013–14 Verbandspokal, (''English: 2013–14 Association Cup'') consisting of twenty one regional cup competitions, the Verbandspokale, was the qualifying competition for the 2014–15 DFB-Pokal, the German Cup. All clubs from the 3. Liga and below could enter the regional Verbandspokale, subject to the rules and regulations of each region. Clubs from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga could not enter but were instead directly qualified for the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
