SC Viktoria 06 Griesheim is a German football club based in Griesheim, Hesse. History Founded in 1906 the club enjoyed some of its best seasons through the 70s and 80s. In 1973 they advanced to the Landesliga Hessen-Süd (IV) and in their fourth season of play there emerged as champions to earn promotion to the Oberliga Hessen (III). Three seasons later in 1980–81, ''Viktoria Griesheim'' claimed the championship in that division, in a year when no promotion places were available to the Oberliga champions. That was the pinnacle as the club's achievement as they began a slide that led to an 18th-place finish and relegation in 1988. ''Griesheim'' returned to the Oberliga for a single season appearances in 1991 and 2004, but both campaigns also ended in a last place finish and relegation. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Griesheim (Hesse)
Griesheim () is a town in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in Hesse, Germany. It is situated west of Darmstadt. History The area of Griesheim has been inhabited since around 4500 BCE yet it was first mentioned in 1165 CE. Wine was an important source of income in Griesheim in earlier times. The Thirty Year War hit Griesheim hard. The surviving inhabitants fled behind the walls of the Darmstadt, where many of them died of the plague. By the end of the war in 1648 only about 370 were left, who set out to rebuild the community. The late 18th, early 19th Century a major industry was the production and trade of fir tree seeds. The city also became a center of woodwork-craft. The Protestant Reformation was introduced to the town in 1529. In 1874 in the southwest part of Griesheim an artillery range opened. The Landesliga ( en, Football State League) is a tier of football in some states of the German football league system. In Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Hamburg, the Landesligas are set right below the Oberliga and therefore are the sixth tier. The reason for this is that Bavaria, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, and Bremen are the only places in Germany where the Oberliga, the State, and the Verband are geographically the same, while the other two states simply chose to call their leagues ''Landesligas'' when establishing them in 1990. In the Middle Rhine and Lower Rhine regions of North Rhine-Westphalia it is also, since 2012, the sixth tier. The Verbandsliga Hessen-Süd, until 2008 named ''Landesliga Hessen-Süd'', is currently the sixth tier of the German football league system.
