SANFIC
The Santiago International Film Festival ( es, Santiago Festival Internacional de Cine, links=no; SANFIC) is a film festival that launched in 2005. As its name suggests, the festival takes place in Santiago, Chile. Along with the well-known Valdivia International Film Festival, SANFIC has become one of the most prestigious film festivals of Chile and South America. Competition There are two main competitions at SANFIC: the ''Chilean Cinema Competition'', and an ''International Competition'', each featuring nine shortlisted films. There is also a ''Local Talent'' competition for local directors and producers, dedicated to short films, with 18 shortlisted works. Cinema Of Chile
Chilean cinema refers to all films produced in Chile or made by Chileans. It had its origins at the start of the 20th century with the first Chilean film screening in 1902 and the first Chilean feature film appearing in 1910. The oldest surviving feature is '' El Húsar de la Muerte'' (1925), and the last silent film was ''Patrullas de Avanzada'' (1931). Santiago (, ; ), also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. ''Whiplash'' is a 2014 American independent psychological drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, and starring Miles Teller, J. K. Simmons, Paul Reiser and Melissa Benoist. The Viña del Mar International Film Festival (Spanish: Festival Internacional de Cine de Viña del Mar, FICVIÑA) is a Latin American film festival held annually in Viña del Mar, Chile. History The idea for a Chilean film festival was born in 1962, when the Viña del Mar Film Club was created by a group of film aficionados. In 1963 the first Amateur Film Festival was held, and the following year the festival opened to films from the Latin American region. This festival dropped the “amateur” to become Chile’s first international film festival in 1967, inaugurated by Aldo Francia. Between 1970 and 2000, the festival was suspended due to the political climate in Chile. In 2007, the festival celebrated its 40th anniversary. Álex Anwandter
Álex Anwandter Donoso (born March 24, 1983 in Santiago) is a Chilean singer-songwriter, musician, and film and music video director. He became popular as the vocalist for the band Teleradio Donoso (2005–2009). In 2010, he began work as a soloist. Anwandter has two nominations for the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Short Form Music Video. Biography Anwandter's Chilean family history goes back to the German Carlos Anwandter, who emigrated to Chile in 1850 and became one of the leaders of the German colonization of Valdivia. The screenplay was co-written with Daniel Castro and the film was produced by Pato Escala Pierart. The story is inspired by the director's grandfather, Leopoldo Osorio, who, after the Chilean coup d'état, was imprisoned for two years and then forced to live in exile for the duration of the dictatorship.
