S8 (Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn)
Line S 8 is an S-Bahn line operated by DB Regio on the Rhine-Ruhr network. It runs from Hagen Hauptbahnhof in the west to Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof in the east via Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof, Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof and Neuss Hauptbahnhof. It is operated between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen station at 20-minute intervals using class 422 electric multiple units. One out of three trains continues to Hagen, running hourly. An S 9 service and three Regional-Express services (Wupper-Express, Rhein-Münsterland-Express and Maas-Wupper-Express) also operate between Wuppertal-Vohwinkel and Hagen each hour. Hagen-Wehringhausen Station
Hagen-Wehringhausen station is a through station in the city of Hagen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The station was opened on 27 May 1979 on a section of the Düsseldorf-Derendorf–Dortmund Süd railway, opened by the Rhenish Railway Company (german: Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, ''RhE'') between Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen and Hagen RhE station (now Hagen-Eckesey depot) on 15 September 1879. It has one platform track and it is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a German railway station categories, category 6 station. The track bed in the station and the nearby bridge at the eastern end of the station are constructed to carry a second track. The only entrance to the station is a staircase which leads to Minervastraße. Wuppertal-Vohwinkel Station
Vohwinkel station is the most western station in the city of Wuppertal. It is located in the district of Vohwinkel. It is a triangular station, built at a railway junction. History The original station was built slightly further west than the present station in 1841 by the Düsseldorf-Elberfeld Railway Company. The Prince William Railway was extended to Vohwinkel in 1848, creating a railway junction. The present building was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the Prussian state railways to the design of Alexander Rüdell. In the early 20th century a three km long marshalling yard was built to the west of the station, but it has since been closed and demolished. In addition to the Düsseldorf-Elberfeld through line and the branch to the former ''Prince William line'' (now the line to Essen), in the past there was a railway line connecting to the now closed Wuppertal Northern Railway and the now closed Corkscrew line from Solingen terminated there. Düsseldorf-Hamm station is about 5 kilometres southwest of Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof in the Düsseldorf district of Hamm in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Erkrath Station
Erkrath station is a through station in the town of Erkrath in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It has two platform tracks and it is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. History The station was opened along with the Düsseldorf–Elberfeld railway from Düsseldorf to Erkrath by the Düsseldorf-Elberfeld Railway Company on 20 December 1838. The line between Erkrath and Hochdahl has a gradient of 3.33% and rises 82 m in about 2.5 km. For more than one hundred years, this was the steepest main line in Europe. For many years trains had to be hauled by cable, originally driven by a stationary steam engine. A few months later haulage by cable attached to a stationary steam engine was changed to haulage by cable attached via pulleys to a locomotive running downhill on an additional track.
