S7 (ZVV)
The S7 is a regional railway service of the Zürich S-Bahn on the ZVV (Zürich transportation network) and is one of the network's trunk services. Route * The service links Winterthur, in the northeast of the canton of Zürich, and Rapperswil-Jona, on the on north shore of Lake Zürich but just over the cantonal boundary in the canton of St. Gallen. From Winterthur, the service runs over the main Zurich–Winterthur railway line to Effretikon, but then takes the secondary route via Kloten to Zürich Oerlikon, from where it proceeds through Zürich via Zürich Hauptbahnhof and Zürich Stadelhofen. From Stadelhofen, trains then run over the Lake Zürich right-bank railway line to Rapperswil. Between Stadelhofen and Meilen trains run non-stop, with a parallel stopping service provided by lines S6 and S16. Rapperswil railway station (german: Bahnhof Rapperswil) is a railway station located next to the old town and harbour of Rapperswil in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is the largest of four active railway stations in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona (the other three being , and ). Rapperswil railway station is situated on the north shore of Lake Zürich at the northern end of the Seedamm, which separates the ''Obersee'' (upper Lake Zürich) from the main body of the lake. Because the Seedamm carries both rail and road connections from the south shore of the lake, and because Rapperswil is the meeting point of three separate line from the northern side of the lake, the station is a major nodal point on the local rail network, notably of the ZVV. Kloten Railway Station
Kloten is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zurich and municipality of Kloten. The station is located on the Zurich to Winterthur line and is an intermediate stop on Zurich S-Bahn line S7. Although the station is situated only from the main terminal of Zurich Airport, it has been bypassed by the opening, in 1980, of a new line directly serving the Zürich Airport railway station in the basement of that terminal. Kloten is now only visited by the S7 and freight trains, while all other passenger trains on the line serve the airport. Opfikon Railway Station
Opfikon is a railway station in Switzerland, in the municipality of Opfikon. The station is served by Zürich S-Bahn line S7. Opfikon station is some walk from Glattbrugg station on S-Bahn line S5 and the Stadtbahn Glattal. The Opfikon station has a single central platform, which is flanked by two tracks. The two through tracks of the Zürich Airport station branch of the Zürich to Winterthur line run parallel to the platform, but are not connected to the platform tracks in the vicinity of the station. Kloten Balsberg Railway Station
Kloten Balsberg is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich and municipality of Kloten. The station is located on a variant of the multi-stranded Zürich–Winterthur railway line and is served by S-Bahn line S7. It is an interchange point between the Zürich S-Bahn and the Stadtbahn Glattal light rail system, which serves an elevated tram stop, adjacent to the station and connected directly to the station platform by an elevated walkway. Meilen Railway Station
Meilen is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich, situated in the municipality of Meilen. The station is located on the Lake Zürich right bank railway line. History The station was opened in 1893, at the same time as the Lake Zürich right bank line. In 1903, Meilen station became the interchange point with the Wetzikon-Meilen-Bahn (WMB), a newly built metre gauge electric tramway that served the Zürcher Oberland area inland from the lake. The WMB originally ran beyond Meilen station, to terminate at the lakeside, but this section closed in 1931 leaving the station as the line's terminus. The WMB closed in 1950. Lake Zürich Right-bank Railway Line
The Lake Zürich right-bank railway line (german: Rechtsufrige Zürichseebahn) is a railway line in the Swiss canton of Zürich. As its name suggests, it runs down the right, or east, bank of Lake Zürich, connecting Zürich to Rapperswil. The line was opened in 1894, nineteen years after the complementary left bank railway. As built, it originally departed from the surface level of Zürich Hauptbahnhof station in a westerly direction, before performing a clockwise 270 degrees turn via a viaduct over the River Limmat and the Letten Tunnel to Stadelhofen station. Since 1990 the Letten Tunnel has been closed and replaced by the Hirschengraben Tunnel, which takes a direct easterly route under the River Limmat from new low level platforms at Hauptbahnhof.
