Kloten Railway Station
Kloten is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zurich and municipality of Kloten. The station is located on the Zurich to Winterthur line and is an intermediate stop on Zurich S-Bahn line S7. Although the station is situated only from the main terminal of Zurich Airport, it has been bypassed by the opening, in 1980, of a new line directly serving the Zürich Airport railway station in the basement of that terminal. Kloten is now only visited by the S7 and freight trains, while all other passenger trains on the line serve the airport. Layout and facilities Kloten consists of a single island platform providing access to tracks 3 and 4. Trains to use track 3, while trains to Zürich use track 4. No platforms serve tracks 1 and 2. Kloten is a municipality in the district of Bülach in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland, and belongs to the Glatt Valley (german: Glatttal). History Kloten is first mentioned in 1155 as ''Chlotun''. Geography Kloten is located in the Glatt Valley, some north of the city of Zürich. It is the nearest village to Zurich Airport, and the airport terminal and much of the airfield are within the municipal boundaries. Kloten has an area of . Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. S7 (ZVV)
The S7 is a regional railway service of the Zürich S-Bahn on the ZVV (Zürich transportation network) and is one of the network's trunk services. Route * The service links Winterthur, in the northeast of the canton of Zürich, and Rapperswil-Jona, on the on north shore of Lake Zürich but just over the cantonal boundary in the canton of St. Gallen. From Winterthur, the service runs over the main Zurich–Winterthur railway line to Effretikon, but then takes the secondary route via Kloten to Zürich Oerlikon, from where it proceeds through Zürich via Zürich Hauptbahnhof and Zürich Stadelhofen. From Stadelhofen, trains then run over the Lake Zürich right-bank railway line to Rapperswil. Between Stadelhofen and Meilen trains run non-stop, with a parallel stopping service provided by lines S6 and S16.
