S13 (Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn)
Line S 13 was an S-Bahn line of the S-Bahn Köln network. It was operated by DB Regio with class 423 electric multiple units. At peak times, the S13 services began or end at Düren and run via Cologne to Troisdorf. In the off peak, half the S13 trains began or end at Sindorf. It ran with line S12 for most of its route, splitting from it only to run through Cologne/Bonn Airport. On working days, two services operated every hour (20 or 40 minutes apart) and together with an hourly service on line S19, services operated at 20-minute intervals. Between the peaks the S12, S13 and S19 services provided a service every 10 minutes on the central section between Köln-Ehrenfeld and Köln-Trimbornstraße. Aachen Hauptbahnhof
Aachen Hauptbahnhof (German for Aachen main station) is the most important railway station for the city of Aachen, in the far west of Germany near the Dutch and Belgian border. It is the largest of the four currently active Aachen stations, and is integrated into the long-distance network. History A station at Aachen was first opened in 1841, when the Rheinische Eisenbahngesellschaft opened its line from Cologne. The line first was extended to Herbesthal (near the Belgian border) and on 15 October 1843 to Antwerp. The first station was built outside of the city walls, however the city soon grew and the station eventually became surrounded by new buildings. The Deutsche Bahn Class 423 EMU is a light-weight articulated electric railcar for S-Bahn commuter networks in Germany. The train has similar dimensions to its predecessor, the Class 420 EMU, but is significantly lighter and has one large passenger compartment, while that of the 420 is divided into three parts. The 423 additionally has six doors in each carriage (three on each side), which is down from eight on the 420 (four on each side). They are numbered from 423 001 to 423 462. Köln Messe/Deutz station (called ''Köln-Deutz'' until November 2004, Colognian: , ) is an important railway junction for long-distance rail and local services in the Cologne district of Deutz in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Cologne Airport Loop
The Cologne Airport Loop is a railway line, which connects the Cologne/Bonn Airport station to the Cologne–Frankfurt high-speed rail line. The loop is used by Intercity-Express trains, the Rhein-Erft-Bahn (RB 27) and S-Bahn line 13. Route The double track line branches off the high-speed rail line north-west of the Cologne district of Gremberghoven and crosses the B8 highway (Frankfurter Straße). Troisdorf–Mülheim-Speldorf Railway
The Troisdorf–Mülheim-Speldorf railway is the main axis for freight between Cologne and the Ruhr area in Germany and the Netherlands. It connects the marshalling yards of Duisburg-Wedau (formerly important, now closed and demolished) and Gremberg (in Cologne). History The track was opened on 18 November 1874 by the Rhenish Railway Company (german: Rheinischen Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft) to connect its Ruhr line with the Right Rhine line. It runs parallel, but a few kilometres to the east of the Cologne–Duisburg trunk line opened by the Cologne-Minden Railway Company (''Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'') thirty years earlier, from which it hoped to draw traffic. East Rhine Railway
The East Rhine Railway (German: ''Rechte Rheinstrecke'', literally 'right (of the) Rhine railway') is a major, double-track, electrified railway line, running along the right bank of the Rhine from Cologne to Wiesbaden. The -long line forms two Deutsche Bahn routes. Route 465 extends from Cologne to Koblenz, via Troisdorf, Bonn-Beuel, Unkel, and Neuwied. From Koblenz, Route 466 extends to Wiesbaden, via Rüdesheim am Rhein. Cologne–Aachen High-speed Railway
The Cologne–Aachen high-speed line is the German part of the Trans-European transport networks project ''high-speed line Paris–Brussels–Cologne''. Köln-Ehrenfeld Station
Köln-Ehrenfeld is a railway station situated at Ehrenfeld, Cologne in western Germany on the Cologne–Aachen railway. It was opened with the first part of the line in 1839. It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn and regional services. Not far from the station is the Venloer Straße/Gürtel underground station of the Cologne Stadtbahn. Station Köln-Ehrenfeld station has two platforms with four platform tracks, to the north of which there are two tracks without a platform for through passenger and freight trains. S19 (Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn)
Line S19 is a S-Bahn line of the S-Bahn Köln network in Germany. It is the youngest line in that network. It is operated by DB Regio with class 423 electric multiple units. The S19 runs until the early evening from Düren via Cologne to Blankenberg (Sieg), Herchen or Au (Sieg) on working days and between Düren and Hennef (Sieg) on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Services to/from Herchen or Au do not stop in Blankenberg. It shares most of this route with line S12, but it runs through Cologne/Bonn Airport instead of through Porz. Line S12 is a S-Bahn line of the S-Bahn Köln network in Germany. It is operated by DB Regio using class 423 electric multiple units. The S12 runs from Horrem via Cologne to Au (Sieg). It shares this route for most of its run with the S 19. With over , it is the second longest S-Bahn line in North Rhine-Westphalia, after S9. The S12 operates every 20 minutes on workdays between Köln Ehrenfeld and Hennef (Sieg), with every third train continuing to Au (Sieg). The S19 also operates hourly between Au (Sieg) and Hennef, so there is a 30 minute clock.
