Cologne–Aachen High-speed Railway
The Cologne–Aachen high-speed line is the German part of the Trans-European transport networks project ''high-speed line Paris–Brussels–Cologne''. It is not a newly built railway line, but a project to upgrade the existing railway line which was opened in 1841 by the Rhenish Railway Company. When it was continued into Belgium in 1843, it became the world's first international railway line. The line inside Germany has a length of about . The first from Cologne to Düren have been rebuilt. Since 2002 the line allows for speeds up to . Separate tracks have been built parallel to the high-speed tracks for local S-Bahn traffic. Railway electrification systems using at are used on transport railways in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway. Buir Station
Buir is a railway station situated at Kerpen, Rhein-Erft-Kreis in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Cologne–Aachen railway. It was opened in 1841 with two platform tracks at an island platform and a passing track. A malt factory located next to the station formerly had a siding. It was rebuilt in 2002 with the construction of the S-Bahn tracks and has two side platforms north and south of the S-Bahn tracks. The northern side platform is separated from the mainline tracks by a noise barrier. Access to the northern platform is via an underpass. It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn lines S13 between Sindorf or Düren and Troisdorf and by S19 between Düren and Hennef (Sieg), Blankenberg (Sieg), Herchen or Au (Sieg). Sindorf Station
Sindorf station is a train station in the town of Sindorf in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Cologne–Aachen high-speed railway. The station is in the south-east of the Kerpen district of Sindorf and has a side platform on the south side of the S-Bahn line. This is bounded to the south by a noise barrier and the entrances and exits are at the ends of the platform. History The original Sindorf station was opened at line-km 22.4 of the Cologne–Aachen railway in 1912 and had a platform north and south of the original line. With the commissioning of the S-Bahn tracks in 2002, the station was relocated to line-km 21.4 and redesignated as a halt. In 2004, citizens complained to the then Minister of Transport Axel Horstmann about the width of the platform. They considered that the three-metre-wide platform was too narrow, which was particularly evident in peak hour traffic. As a result, the ticket machines were relocated. Erft
The Erft () is a river in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows through the foothills of the Eifel, and joins the Lower Rhine (left tributary). Its origin is near Nettersheim, and its mouth in Neuss-Grimlinghausen south of the Josef Cardinal Frings Bridge. The river is long, which is significantly shorter than it was originally. Horrem Station
Horrem station is a station in the Kerpen district of Horrem in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a railway junction of the Cologne–Aachen high-speed railway and the Erft Railway (Horrem–Bedburg, connecting with Neuss). The triangular station of Horrem is served by regional services and by S-Bahn trains of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn. Long-distance trains run through on the high-speed line without stopping. Erft Railway
Bedburg–Horrem railway (also known in German as the ''Erftbahn''—Erft Railway) is a line in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The non-electrified main line was originally built as a line of the Bergheim District Railway and operated as a metre gauge railway. Later, the line was converted to standard gauge. The Erft Railway is listed as table 481 of the German railway timetable. It is served only by the ''Erftbahn'' Regionalbahn service. Köln-Weiden West is a railway station situated at Weiden, Cologne in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Cologne–Aachen railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. Station The Stadtbahn station is on ground level just south of the line, enabling direct interchange. A light rail trip from Weiden West to the stop at the RheinEnergieStadion takes about ten minutes, so the stop is used by many football fans for home games of 1. FC Köln.
