Ryszard Bukowski (2 January 1916 in Cieszkowy''Encyklopedia Muzyczna PWM'' (Vol. 1) erroneously gives the composer’s birthplace as Ciężkowice near Tarnów. This mistake was corrected in the Encyclopaedia’s ''AB Supplement''. – 19 May 1987 in Wrocław) was a Polish composer, teacher, and Music criticism, music critic. Biography Ryszard Bukowski was the only child of Stefan Bukowski of the Ossorya coat of arms (1878–1929) and Maria Harriet (Molly) née Schulze (1883–1970). Both his parents were active Visual arts, visual artists; Molly specialised in portraits and book illustrations; Stefan in landscapes. Cieszkowy village in the Pińczów district was also the birthplace of another famous artist, painter and set designer Karol Frycz. The now non-existent Cieszkowy manor, family property, was managed by the eldest of Stefan’s brothers, Karol Bukowski. Edward Dziewoński (16 December 1916 in Moscow, Russian Empire – 17 August 2002 in Warsaw, Poland) was a Polish stage and film actor, and theatre director. He studied acting at Państwowy Instytut Sztuki Teatralnej and debuted at the Syrena Theatre. He later played in the National Theatre, the Ateneum Theatre, the Współczesny Theatre, and the Komedia Theatre - and was founder and director of the Kwadrat Theatre. He was also a popular artist at satirical theatres (cabarets) such as: Kabaret Szpak, Kabaret Wagabunda, Kabaret Starszych Panów, and the one he founded and directed at - Kabaret Dudek. The Andrzej Markowski International Festival Wratislavia Cantans is a music festival held every September in Wrocław and Lower Silesia, Poland, organized by the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music in Wrocław. Henryk Mikołaj Górecki ( , ; 6 December 1933 – 12 November 2010) was a Polish composer of contemporary classical music. According to critic Alex Ross, no recent classical composer has had as much commercial success as Górecki. He became a leading figure of the Polish avant-garde during the post-Stalin cultural thaw. His Anton Webern-influenced serialist works of the 1950s and 1960s were characterized by adherence to dissonant modernism and influenced by Luigi Nono, Karlheinz Stockhausen,Thomas (1997), 17 Krzysztof Penderecki and Kazimierz Serocki. Rafał Augustyn (composer)
Rafał Augustyn (born August 28, 1951, in Wrocław, Poland) is a composer of classical music, and a pianist, music critic, writer and scholar of Polish philology. As a composer he has written symphonies, chamber orchestra works, vocal and electronic music, as well as music for theatre. Since the mid-1990s, Augustyn has collaborated with visual artists, architects and photographers on numerous multimedia art works. Education and career Augustyn studied composition under Ryszard Bukowski at the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław between 1971 and 1974, and between 1975 and 1977 at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice, where he studied under Henryk Górecki. In 1979, Augustyn began to teach at the Institute of Polish Philology at Wrocław University and has remained there since. His works have had numerous performances at the Warsaw Autumn Festival, as well as at other Polish festivals, and across Europe, North America and the Far East.

Witold Maliszewski
Witold Maliszewski (russian: Витольд Осипович Малишевский, uk, Вітольд Йосифович Малішевський; 20 July 1873 – 18 July 1939) was a Polish composer, founder of Odessa Conservatory, and a professor of Warsaw Conservatory. Biography Maliszewski was born in Mohyliv-Podilskyi, Russian Empire (now Ukraine). He graduated from Saint Petersburg Conservatory, in the class of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. He was a member of Belyayev circle. In 1913 he became a founder and the first director of the Odessa Conservatory, which gave the world a number of outstanding musicians, such as David Oistrakh, Emil Gilels and Yakov Zak.
