Ryan James Otten (born April 7, 1990) is a former American football tight end He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played college football at San Jose State. Early life Otten was born in Carmichael, California and graduated from Del Oro High School in Loomis, California in 2008. As a senior in 2007, Otten was a first-team All-NorCal selection by Scout.com. Additionally, Otten won the National Football Foundation High School Scholar-Athlete Award in 2007. College career At San Jose State University, Otten redshirted his freshman year in 2008 then played for the San Jose State Spartans football team from 2009 to 2012. As a redshirt freshman in 2009 under coach Dick Tomey, Otten played all 12 games with 7 starts and had 10 receptions for 78 yards. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. Dick Tomey
Richard Hastings Tomey (June 20, 1938 – May 10, 2019) was an American football coach and player. Tomey served as the head football coach at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (1977–1986), University of Arizona (1987–2000), and San Jose State University (2005–2009), compiling a career college football record of 183–145–7. His last full-time coaching position was as the special teams coach at Hawaii in 2011 under head coach Greg McMackin, who resigned after the season. Tomey was not retained by McMackin's successor, Norm Chow. Tomey served as a head coach of the victorious West team in the Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game on January 11, 2013 at Kino Stadium in Arizona. The 2012 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman was a post-season American college football bowl game held on December 27, 2012, at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. The fifth edition of the Military Bowl began at 3:00 p.m. EST and was shown on ESPN. It was between the San Jose State Spartans from the Western Athletic Conference and the Bowling Green Falcons from the Mid-American Conference and was the final game of the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season for both teams. The Spartans accepted their invitation after earning a 10–2 record in the regular season, while the Falcons accepted after earning an 8–4 record on theirs.
