Rux
Rux is an influential street punk band from South Korea. They formed in 1996 and released their first recording in 1999. Lead vocalist Won Jong-hee, the only remaining original member, also ran Skunk Label and owned the punk music venue Skunk Hell. They gained notoriety in 2005 when friends of the band undressed on stage during the live nationwide broadcast of an episode of MBC concert show ''Music Camp''. History Rux was formed in 1996 when the punk music scene centered on Club Drug and Crying Nut. The name "Rux" is synonymous with "Ruckus". Rux released several songs on compilations and went through numerous personnel changes before releasing the seven-song compilation ''I Gatta Go''. The title refers to conscription in South Korea for all Korean males, which frequently breaks up Korean bands. Galaxy Express (South Korean Band)
Galaxy Express (Hangul: 갤럭시 익스프레스) is a garage rock band from South Korea that formed in 2006. The trio, which is known for its energetic stage presence, is one of the most popular rock bands in South Korea and has received international acclaim. Career Galaxy Express debuted in 2007 with the EP, ''To The Galaxy.'' Their first full-length album, 2008's ''Noise On Fire'', won Best Rock Album at the 2009 Korean Music Awards. To make their second full-length album, 2010's ''Wild Days,'' the band posted songs online and asked fans for feedback before recording final versions. Mullae-dong
Mullae-dong is a '' dong'' (neighborhood) of Yeongdeungpo-gu in Seoul, South Korea. The name "Mullae" comes from the neighborhood's old name, "Moraet-mal(모랫말)," which means "Sandy Village" in Korean. The neighborhood is most well known for its industrial factories. Because the neighborhood is one the least gentrified areas of Seoul a lot of factories— that manufacture a variety of goods from textile to steel— are present in the area. In fact, there is a street nicknamed "steel factory street" (철공소 거리) due to the abundancy of Metal fabrication factories. Mullae-dong is also known for art. Hongdae () is a neighborhood in Seoul, South Korea near Hongik University, after which it is named. It is known for its urban arts and indie music culture, local shops, clubs and entertainment. The area is located in Mapo-gu in the western end of Seoul, stretching from Seogyo-dong to Hapjeong-dong. Name Hongdae () is an abbreviation of Hongik Daehakgyo, Hongik University (홍익대학교). Rosetta Stone
The Rosetta Stone is a stele composed of granodiorite inscribed with three versions of a Rosetta Stone decree, decree issued in Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty on behalf of King Ptolemy V Epiphanes. The top and middle texts are in Egyptian language, Ancient Egyptian using Egyptian hieroglyphs, hieroglyphic and Demotic (Egyptian), Demotic scripts respectively, while the bottom is in Ancient Greek. Conscription In South Korea
Conscription in South Korea has existed since 1957 and requires male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 to perform compulsory military service. Women are not required to perform military service, but they may voluntarily join the military. Establishment The basis for military conscription in South Korea is the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, which was promulgated on 17 July 1948. Crying Nut
Crying Nut () is a punk band from South Korea. They are often credited as being pioneers of the Korean punk and indie rock scenes. The group began performing in 1995 in the Hongdae club scene in Seoul. They released their debut album, '' Speed Up Losers,'' in 1998, selling over 100,000 copies. Crying Nut became a household name in South Korea following their performances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The group has released eight full-length albums as of 2018. Joseon Punk In the 1990s, the Korean public was being exposed to many foreign musical styles for the first time, following new political freedom.
