Film Director
A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking. The film director gives direction to the cast and crew and creates an overall vision through which a film eventually becomes realized or noticed. Directors need to be able to mediate differences in creative visions and stay within the budget. There are many pathways to becoming a film director. Some film directors started as screenwriters, cinematographers, producers, film editors or actors. Other film directors have attended a film school. Directors use different approaches. Some outline a general plotline and let the actors improvise dialogue, while others control every aspect and demand that the actors and crew follow instructions precisely. Vladimir Bortko
Vladimir Vladimirovich Bortko (russian: Владимир Владимирович Бортко; born 7 May 1946) is a Russian film director, screenwriter, producer and politician. He was a member of the State Duma between 2011 and 2021, and was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia. Biography Vladimir Bortko was born 7 May 1946 in Moscow. He grew up in the family of the Ukrainian Soviet playwright Oleksandr Korniychuk. After his studies in the ''Geological College'' in Kyiv and his military service in 1965-1966, he worked three years as an electrical engineer in Kyiv. In 1969 he went to the Karpenko-Kary State University of Theatre, Film and Television in Kyiv. After graduating in 1974 he worked as an assistant director at the Dovzhenko Film Studios. Konstantin Fam aka Costa Fam (rus. ''Константи́н Фа́м'', born 13 July 1972, Pervomayskiy, USSR) is a Russian independent director, producer, screenwriter. His movie '' "Shoes"'' produced in the memory of the Holocaust victims was the only Russian short movie applying for the Academy Awards in 2013. His father, Nguen Kong Tak, is a Vietnamese political immigrant, who was sent personally by Ho Chi Minh to study in the Soviet Union. Nurbek Egen
Nurbek Egen (Russian Нурбек Эген; born 3 December 1975) is a Kyrgyz and Russian film and TV director and screenwriter. His films have won two Young Artist Awards: his short film ''Sanzhyra'' as Best Short Foreign Film and his feature film The Wedding Chest as Outstanding International Drama. Biography Nurbek Egen was born Osh Oblast, Kirghiz SSR. Having graduated from Physics and Mathematics school, he studied acting at Arts Institute in Bishkek for two years. Andrei Andreyevich Eshpai (russian: Андре́й Андре́евич Эшпа́й, born 18 April 1956, Moscow, Russia) is a (Russian and Soviet) film director, screenwriter and producer of Mari descent. Biography He is the son of the composer Andrei Yakovlevich Eshpai, and the grandson of the composer Yakov Andreyevich Eshpai. Ivan Vladimirovich Dykhovichny (Russian: Иван Владимирович Дыховичный, 16 October 1947 – 27 September 2009) was a Russian film director and screenwriter. He directed ten films between 1984 and 2009. His film ''Music for December'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. Pavel Grigoryevich Chukhray (russian: Па́вел Григо́рьевич Чухра́й; Bykovo, Moscow Oblast, October 14, 1946) is a Soviet and Russian film director and screenwriter. Pyotr Chardynin
Pyotr Ivanovich Chardynin (russian: Пётр Иванович Чардынин) ( – 14 August 1934) was a Russian and Soviet film director, screenwriter and actor. One of the pioneers of the film industry in the Russian Empire, Chardynin directed over a hundred silent films during his career. Biography Chardynin was born Pyotr Ivanovich Krasavtsev on 10 February 1873 in Simbirsk, Russian Empire (now Ulyanovsk, Russia). In 1890, he was admitted to the Drama School of Moscow Philharmonic Society, where he studied under Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko from 1891. After graduating, he adopted stage name of Chardynin and started both acting and directing career in provincial Russian theatres in Belgorod, Orekhovo-Zuevo, Uralsk and Vologda.
