Russian Penguins
The Russian Penguins were a professional touring Russian ice hockey club that competed in the 1993–94 IHL season, playing one game against each of the 13 teams involved in the regular IHL season. The results of the games played by the Russian Penguins counted in the standings for that season. The Penguins finished with a record of 2 wins, 9 losses, and 2 overtime losses earning them 6 points. In 1993, Pittsburgh Penguins owner Howard Baldwin bought a 50% interest in the struggling HC CSKA Moscow team and signed a management contract to run that club's arena. The aim was to provide the team with Western sponsorship and much-needed capital, as well as providing the Pittsburgh club with easier access to Russian players. The partnership lasted two years until Baldwin and other sponsors pulled out. Nikolai Khabibulin was the most notable player on that roster. The New Jersey Devils are a professional sports, professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. Alexander Valeryevich "Sasha" Kharlamov (russian: Александр Валерьевич Харламов; born September 23, 1975) is a Russian former ice hockey player. Kharlamov was selected in the first round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals, though he never played in the National Hockey League. Valentin Morozov (russian: Валентин Морозов; born June 1, 1975) is a Russian former professional ice hockey player who spent the majority of his career in the Russian Super League. Playing career NHL Draft Valentin Morozov was drafted in the sixth round, 154th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. After being drafted, he remained in Russia and played four seasons with CSKA Moscov. After the 1996-97 season, Morozov left CSKA Moscow and signed with Krylia Sovetov. Red Penguins is a 2019 American-Russian documentary film directed, written, and produced by Gabe Polsky and in co-production with Studio Hamburg Enterprises and Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Gabe Polsky
Gabe Polsky (born May 3, 1979) is an American film director, writer and producer. Early life Polsky was born to Soviet immigrants, and raised in the Chicago area. He attended the Hotchkiss School. After graduating, he went to Yale University, where he played NCAA hockey. He competed on Team USA in hockey at the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel, winning a silver medal. Career Polsky wrote, directed, and produced the feature documentary ''Red Penguins'', which premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
