Rugby Football League Championship Final
The Championship Final was a playoff series at the end of the Rugby Football League Championship, RFL Championship season to determine the winners of the Championship. It was first contested in 1908 between Hunslet F.C. (1883), Hunslet and Oldham R.L.F.C., Oldham but folded in 1972. The Super League Grand Final replaced it in 1998. 1907–08 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1907–08 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 13th season of rugby league football. Season summary League Champions were Hunslet who beat Oldham 12-2 in a replay after a 7-7 draw. It was the first time a team that did not finish top of the league won the Championship. Challenge Cup Winners were Hunslet who defeated Hull F.C. 14-0. Liverpool City were replaced by the two Welsh clubs, Merthyr Tydfil and Ebbw Vale, taking the competition to 27 clubs. Bradford switched to Association Football and were replaced by Bradford Northern. Oldham won the Lancashire League, and Hunslet won the Yorkshire League. Oldham beat Broughton Rangers 16–9 to win the Lancashire Cup, and Hunslet beat Halifax 17–0 to win the Yorkshire County Cup. The 1910–11 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 16th season of rugby league football. Season summary Oldham won their third Championship, and second in a row, after defeating Wigan 20-7 in the Play Off Final. Wigan had ended the regular season in the top position, but only after it had been decided by a one-off play-off with Oldham that Wigan won 11-3. The Challenge Cup winners were Broughton Rangers who defeated Wigan 4-0. Coventry replaced Treherbert. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Wakefield Trinity won the Yorkshire League. Oldham beat Swinton 4–3 to win the Lancashire Cup, and Wakefield Trinity beat Huddersfield 8–2 to win the Yorkshire County Cup. Leeds Rhinos
The Leeds Rhinos are a professional rugby league club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The club was formed in 1870 as Leeds St John's and play in the Super League, the top tier of English rugby league. They have played home matches at Headingley Stadium since 1890. In 1895, Leeds was one of twenty-two rugby clubs that broke away from the Rugby Football Union and formed what was originally the Northern Union, but is now the Rugby Football League. The 1914–15 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 20th season of rugby league football. It featured Huddersfield's "Team of all talents" which became the second team to win all four cups. Season summary The 1914-15 season began just a month after Britain had declared War on Germany following their invasion of Belgium in early August. Tensions across Europe had seen a full scale "World War" develop in late July but despite this the 1914-1915 season was played to its conclusion before competitive competition was finally suspended. In fact the season kicked off on 5 September, the same day the first big battle of World War I (the Battle of the Marne) began in which the Franco-British defeated the Germans. Headingley Rugby Stadium shares the same site as Headingley Cricket Ground and is home to Leeds Rhinos. Headingley is the List of Rugby League stadiums in England, 5th largest rugby league stadium in England. The Salford Red Devils are a professional rugby league club in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, who play in the Super League. Formed in 1873, they have won six Championships and one Challenge Cup. Belle Vue, also known as the Be Well Support Stadium for sponsorship reasons, in Wakefield, England, is the home of Wakefield Trinity rugby league club. It is on the A638 Doncaster Road, a mile south of Wakefield city centre. History Early years Wakefield Trinity originally played on Heath Common. In 1875–76, they moved to a ground near the Borough Market (near the current Trinity shopping centre). They returned to the Belle Vue area of Wakefield played on a ground behind the Alexandra Hotel near Elm Street. This is on the opposite side of the road from the present ground. It remains unconfirmed when Wakefield Trinity moved to the present ground as Belle Vue is both an area of Wakefield and the name of the ground and people can confuse a mention of one for the other.
