Ru Pullan
Ru Pullan (1916–1993) was an Australian writer of radio, television, novels, short stories and theatre. He was one of the leading radio writers in Australia in the 1940s and 1950s. Writing as Luke Hardin, Cass Durand and Lew Rand, he published 50 novels in the western genre between 1962 and 1970. He also wrote romance novels using the pseudonyms Paul Easton and Wynne Barrie. ''The Herald'' was a morning and, later, evening broadsheet newspaper published in Melbourne, Australia, from 3 January 1840 to 5 October 1990, which is when it merged with its sister morning newspaper ''The Sun News-Pictorial'' to form the ''Herald-Sun''. Founding The ''Port Phillip Herald'' was first published as a semi-weekly newspaper on 3 January 1840 from a weatherboard shack in Collins Street. It was the fourth newspaper to start in Melbourne. The paper took its name from the region it served. Until its establishment as a separate colony in 1851, the area now known as Victoria was a part of New South Wales and it was generally referred to as the Port Phillip district. Like him he never really succeeds in getting behind the headlines, but he has raised a burning social issue from the printed column to the stage." ''Curly on the Rack'' is a 1958 Australian play by Ru Pullan set in Rabaul after World War II. Pullan was an experienced radio writer. The play came about from a discussion Pullan had with a friend about treasure left behind in the war. It was presented by the Elizabethan Theatre Trust at a time when production of Australian plays was rare. It was considered a disappointment after their successful productions of ''The Shifting Heart'' and ''Summer of the Seventeenth Doll''. Plot After World War Two, two brothers, the tough Max and the gentler Harry, live in Rabaul with their sister Pet, salvaging war time equipment. Their truck driver, Curly, waits for his opportunity to recover £10,000 he planted on a nearby island during the Japanese invasion along with a fellow soldier called Scobie. The ''Eastern Riverina Chronicle'', previously published as ''The Observer'', ''The Henty Observer and Culcairn Shire Register and Shire's Observer,'' the ''Eastern Riverina Observer'' and the ''Holbrook, Billabong & Upper Murray Chronicle'', is a newspaper published in Henty, New South Wales, Australia. History ''The Observer'' was first published in 1906 using equipment bought from '' The Border Post, and Wodonga Advertiser'', an Albury newspaper which had ceased operation in 1902. It was also titled T''he Henty observer and Culcairn Shire register and Shire's observer''. The press moved a number of times in Henty until, after a fire destroyed its premises in 1933, a new building was constructed.
