Ru Pullan
Ru Pullan (1916–1993) was an Australian writer of radio, television, novels, short stories and theatre. He was one of the leading radio writers in Australia in the 1940s and 1950s. Writing as Luke Hardin, Cass Durand and Lew Rand, he published 50 novels in the western genre between 1962 and 1970. He also wrote romance novels using the pseudonyms Paul Easton and Wynne Barrie. The ''South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus'', also previously published as the ''Wollongong Argus'', and later as the ''South Coast Times'', was a weekly English language newspaper published in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia from 1900 to 1959. History Volume 1, no. 1 of the ''South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus ''appeared on Saturday 6 January 1900, incorporating its precursor, the ''Wollongong Argus, ''which'' ''commenced publication in 1876 and continued until 1899. Petrov Affair
The Petrov Affair was a Cold War spy incident in Australia, concerning the defection of Vladimir Petrov, a KGB officer, from the Soviet embassy in Canberra in 1954. The defection led to a Royal Commission and the resulting controversy contributed to the Australian Labor Party split of 1955. Background Petrov, despite his relatively junior diplomatic status, was a colonel in (what became in 1954) the KGB, the Soviet secret police, and his wife was an officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). The Petrovs had been sent to the Canberra embassy in 1951 by the Soviet security chief, Lavrentiy Beria. After Joseph Stalin's death in March 1953, Beria had been arrested and shot by Stalin's successors, and Vladimir Petrov evidently feared that, if he returned to the Soviet Union, he would be purged as a "Beria man". Guy Doleman
Guy Doleman (22 November 1923 – 30 January 1996) was a New Zealand born actor, active in Australia, Britain and the United States. Early life Doleman was born in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, later moving to Australia. Career During the 1940s and '50s, Doleman was one of the busiest actors in Australia, appearing in the majority of films made there at the time, and being busy on radio, particularly in the drama ''Hagen's Circus'', which made him a radio star in Australia. Radio historian Peter Philp grouped Doleman with Peter Finch, Grant Taylor, Rod Taylor and Lloyd Berrell as part of "a wild but very colourful group of actors... who in their own way helped forge a wonderful ambience which was unique to Sydney radio." Bruce Stewart (scriptwriter)
Bruce Robert Stewart (4 September 1925 – ) was a scriptwriter best known for his scripts for television. Originally from New Zealand, he lived for several years in Australia, working in the theatre, before moving to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s. There he worked on many projects for both the BBC and ITV, notably ''Out of the Unknown'' and ''Timeslip''. Biography Stewart was born in Auckland. For three years he studied to be a priest at Marist seminary. He then moved into the entertainment industry. He would perform songs and tell stories as a forces entertaininer, then moved into radio in Auckland, where he worked as a radio announcer and actor. In 1947 Stewart moved to Sydney, Australia where he got work as a radio announcer. He became an actor, appearing in radio dramas, as well as acting in stage plays in the evening.
