Igor Zabel
Igor Zabel (14 August 1958 – 23 July 2005) was a Slovene art historian, curator, and essayist. He was curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and one of the most prominent writers on modern and contemporary art in Slovenia. In 2007 he was posthumously awarded the Rožanc Award for his essays on Modern and Contemporary Art. ''The Igor Zabel Association for Culture and Theory'' and its ''Igor Zabel Award'' carry his name, in the memory of his work. Life Zabel was born in Ljubljana. He graduated in Philosophy, History of Art, and Comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana in 1982. In 1989, he received his master's degree from the same university. Between 1984 and 1986, Igor Zabel worked as a freelance writer. In 1986, he started working as curator at the Ljubljana Museum of Modern Art, later gaining the title of senior curator. Jože Snoj
Jože Snoj (17 March 1934 – 7 October 2021) was a Slovenian poet, novelist, journalist and essayist. He was awarded the 2012 Prešeren Award for his lifetime work and rich literary opus. He was born in Maribor, then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, into a wealthy Slovene family. His uncle, Franc Snoj, was a prominent member of the Slovene People's Party and a minister in the Royal Yugoslav Government. In April 1941, after the invasion of Yugoslavia he escaped with his family from the Nazis to the Italian-occupied Lower Carniola. From there, the family had to flee again to Ljubljana in order to escape persecution by the Communist-led partisan movement. In 1947, his uncle Franc Snoj was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in a staged trial together with other liberal and social democrats who tried to organize a legal opposition to Josip Broz Tito's Communist regime (the so-called Nagode's trial). Aleš Berger
Aleš Berger (born 18 September 1946) is a Slovene writer, translator and literary critic. Berger was born in Ljubljana in 1946. He studied comparative literature and French at the University of Ljubljana and worked as an editor and theatre critic. He is known for his translations into Slovene from French ( Lautréamont, Apollinaire, Beckett, René Char, Raymond Queneau and Jacques Prévert) and Spanish ( Jorge Luis Borges). Milan Dekleva
Milan Dekleva (born 17 October 1946) is a Slovene poet, writer, playwright, composer and journalist. Dekleva was born in Ljubljana in 1946. He graduated in comparative literature from the University of Ljubljana and works as a journalist. He is best known for his poetry and has published over twenty peorty collections, a number of novels and collections of short stories. He was the first poet to publish haiku in Slovene (''Mushi mushi'', 1971). Many of his poems deal with the modern human condition in the absence of God. He received a number of awards including the Prešeren Foundation Award in 1989 for his poetry collection ''Zapriseženi prah'', the Grand Prešeren Award in 2006 for his lifetime poetry and writing work and the Kresnik Award for his novel ''Zmagoslavje podgan'' (The Triumph of the Rats), also in 2006. Edvard Kovač
Fr. Edvard Kovač (born 1950) is a Slovenian theologian, philosopher and author. He is a member of the Order of Friars Minor and professor at the University of Ljubljana Theological Faculty and the Catholic University of Toulouse. Vinko Ošlak
Vinko Ošlak (born 23 June 1947) is a Slovene author, essayist, translator, columnist and esperantist from the Austrian state of Carinthia. Ošlak was born in the town of Slovenj Gradec, then part of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia in former Yugoslavia. After completing his primary and high school education in his native province of Slovenian Carinthia, he enrolled at the University of Ljubljana, where he studied political science. Due to economic problems, he quit the studies and dedicated himself to journalism.
