Rosscoe Arnold McCarthy
Rosscoe Arnold McCarthy (January 8, 1891 – 1970) was a political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cannington from 1949 to 1964 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Hagersville, Ontario, the son of John McCarthy, and was educated there and in Francis, Saskatchewan. In 1921, McCarthy married Annie Ruth McDonnell. He served on the council for the rural municipality of Golden West, also serving as reeve. McCarthy lived in Corning. Cannington (former Electoral District)
Cannington was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. It was preceded by a Territorial constituency of the same name. The constituency was combined with the "Souris" district of Souris-Estevan (and renamed " Souris-Cannington"), and lost parts to Moosomin, Indian Head-Wolseley, Weyburn and Estevan before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The party was the provincial affiliate of the Liberal Party of Canada until 2009. William John Patterson
William John Patterson (May 13, 1886 – June 10, 1976) was a Liberal politician and the sixth premier of Saskatchewan from 1935 to 1944. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 1921 election. He succeeded James G. Gardiner to become the province's first Saskatchewan-born premier. Patterson's leadership was considered to be uninspired. He was unable to resist the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation's rise to power in the 1944 election under Tommy Douglas. Patterson's Liberals were reduced to five seats in the Legislature. He resigned as Liberal leader in 1946. Patterson served as the tenth Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan from 1951 to 1958, becoming the first person to have been both Premier and lieutenant governor of the province.
