Ross McLean (politician)
Ross Malcolm McLean, Order of Australia, AM (born 30 June 1944) is a former Liberal Party of Australia, Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1975 to 1983, representing the Division of Perth, Western Australia. Early life McLean was born in Perth on 30 June 1944. He completed the degree of Bachelor of Economics (Honours degree, Hons.) at the University of Western Australia and worked at the university as a senior administrative assistant. Politics McLean served as president of the Liberal Party's North Perth, Western Australia, North Perth division from 1969 to 1972. He was elected to the party's state council in 1976 and was a delegate to federal council. Katherine Ella Chaney (born 21 January 1975) is an Australian independent politician, who was elected to the Australian House of Representatives at the 2022 Australian federal election, succeeding Liberal Party MP Celia Hammond in the division of Curtin. Carmen Mary Lawrence (born 2 March 1948) is an Australian academic and former politician who was the Premier of Western Australia from 1990 to 1993, the first woman to become the premier of an Australian state. The Electoral district of Subiaco was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. The district was named for the inner western Perth suburb of Subiaco, which fell within its borders. It was normally a safe seat for the Liberal Party and its predecessors, but was won on several occasions by Labor in landslide elections. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 8 February 1986 to elect all 57 members to the Legislative Assembly and 17 members to the 34-seat Legislative Council. 1980 Australian Federal Election
The 1980 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 18 October 1980. All 125 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of the 64 seats in the Senate were up for election. The incumbent Liberal–NCP coalition government, led by Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, was elected to a third term with a much reduced majority, defeating the opposition Labor Party led by Bill Hayden. This was the last federal election victory for the Coalition until the 1996 election.
