North Perth is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Vincent. This old, established suburb three kilometres north of the Perth central business district is a place of mainly solid brick homes built from the early 1900s, many of which are now undergoing extensive renovations in line with the nationwide trend toward close-to-the-city living. It is home to various small shops and cafes, as well as the Rosemount Hotel. Beatty Park Leisure Centre was built (as Beatty Park Aquatic Centre) for the Perth Commonwealth Games in 1962 in Vincent Street. The Electoral district of Perth is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Perth is named for the capital city of Western Australia whose central business district falls within its borders. It is one of the oldest electorates in Western Australia, with its first member having been elected in the inaugural 1890 elections of the Legislative Assembly. Municipality Of North Perth
The Municipality of North Perth was a local government area in inner suburban Perth, Western Australia, centred on the suburb of North Perth. It was established as the North Perth Road District on 10 March 1899. It was made a municipality on 25 October 1901. Its boundaries were extended at this time to include what would become the suburb of Mount Hawthorn. The North Perth area was largely undeveloped at the time of its creation, and in 1901 was "full of empty spaces and comparatively virgin country". Accordingly, it oversaw significant road construction in its early days; the area had "but two or three streets in order" when created, and 30 miles of paved road in the municipality by 1904. The municipality built the first stage of the North Perth Town Hall in View Street as their new headquarters in 1902, with the larger second stage following in 1910. The Electoral district of North Perth was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. The district was named for its location immediately to the north of the central business district of Perth. North Perth was created under the ''Constitution Acts Amendment Act 1896'', which took effect at the 1897 election. Its first election was notable in producing Western Australia's first Labor member of Parliament, Charles Oldham, who had been a president of the Trades and Labor Council and had become an employer, and hence could afford to run in the days prior to payment of members. Oldham associated with the official opposition led by George Leake, but ultimately his seat was declared vacant for non-attendance on 16 October 1900. An independent, Richard Speight, won at the subsequent general election four months later, but died just seven months into his term. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. Vincent Street is a street in Perth, Western Australia. It runs west-east, separating the suburbs of West Perth and Perth from North Perth. The street is believed to have been named by the chief draftsman in the Lands Department, George Vincent, after himself in about 1876.
