Rosenhügel Studios
The Rosenhügel Studios are film studios located in the Austrian capital Vienna. They were opened in 1923 and originally owned by the Vita-Film production company. After the company's bankruptcy the following year the studios were taken over by Sascha Film, the largest of the Austrian companies of the era. In the early 1930s Sascha formed a partnership with the German outfit Tobis Film to renovate the studios for production of sound films. A number of Austrian hit films were produced there during the remainder of the decade. Following the Anschluss of 1938, the Austrian film industry was incorporated into that of Nazi Germany. Rosenhügel was taken over by the German-controlled Wien-Film under Karl Hartl. During the Soviet Occupation of East Vienna between 1945 and 1955, the studios were used for a mixture of entertainment films and Communist propaganda works. Karl Paryla
Karl Paryla (1905–1996) was an Austrian theater actor and director, and later a film maker as well. A lifelong, dedicated communist, his career in the Austrian theater was first interrupted by the Second World War, and then strained by Cold War politics. In the 1950s he began working in East Germany, where he performed as an actor and directed plays and films. An actor trained in the school of Constantin Stanislavski, he is praised for the realism he brought to his performances especially in Johann Nestroy's plays and for his ability to organize large ensembles dynamically on the stage. He is remembered also for his work ethic and his fervent belief in the emancipatory power of the theater. Aldo Vergano
Aldo Vergano (1891–1957) was an Italian director, screenwriter and journalist. He was the father of actress Serena Vergano. Biography Born in Rome, was son of Sebastiano Lodovico Vergano and Eleonora Zuddas. Vergano was the co-founder with Alessandro Blasetti of the magazine ''Cinematografo''. He made his film debut with the screenplay of Blasetti's ''Sun'', one of the most important films of the Italian silent cinema. In the thirties, though persecuted by fascism for his political views, he was a prolific screenwriter of Telefoni Bianchi films. Walter Kolm-Veltée
Walter Kolm-Veltée (27 December 1910 – 8 March 1999) was an Austrian film director. He directed nine films between 1933 and 1959. He was the son of Austrian film director Luise Fleck from her first marriage. He became a respected film director, producer and screenwriter. After his earlier career in which he often worked with his mother and stepfather, he founded in 1952 the first film academy in Austria, at the '' Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst'' in Vienna. His film on the life of Beethoven, '' Eroica'', released in 1949, with Ewald Balser, Oskar Werner and Judith Holzmeister in the leads, is counted as one of the most successful Austrian films ever. In the same way that his parents were pioneers of film, so Walter Kolm-Veltée was a pioneer of the development of the new medium of television. ''Franz Schubert'' (original German title: ''Franz Schubert – Ein Leben in zwei Sätzen'') is a 1953 Austrian film depicting composer Franz Schubert's life and work. ''Daughter of the Regiment'' (german: Die Regimentstochter) is a 1953 Austrian historical comedy film directed by Georg C. Klaren and starring Aglaja Schmid, Robert Lindner, and Hermann Erhardt. It is based on the storyline of the 1840 opera ''La fille du regiment'' by Gaetano Donizetti. The plot had previously been used for a 1929 silent film and a 1933 sound film, and another film version was made during 1953 by Géza von Bolváry.
