Franz Schubert (film)
''Franz Schubert'' (original German title: ''Franz Schubert – Ein Leben in zwei Sätzen'') is a 1953 Austrian film depicting composer Franz Schubert's life and work. It was shot at the Rosenhügel Studios in Vienna with sets designed by the art director Leo Metzenbauer. Plot Franz Schubert works as an assistant teacher in the school led by his father. In his spare time, however, the young man, who considers Ludwig van Beethoven to be his unattainable role model, devotes himself to writing music. As public acceptance is denied to him, his friends lobby at the music publisher Anton Diabelli for a public performance of Schubert's music. During a reception, at which Schubert performs his ''Ave Maria'', he gets to know singer Therese Grob. Walter Kolm-Veltée
Walter Kolm-Veltée (27 December 1910 – 8 March 1999) was an Austrian film director. He directed nine films between 1933 and 1959. He was the son of Austrian film director Luise Fleck from her first marriage. He became a respected film director, producer and screenwriter. After his earlier career in which he often worked with his mother and stepfather, he founded in 1952 the first film academy in Austria, at the '' Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst'' in Vienna. His film on the life of Beethoven, '' Eroica'', released in 1949, with Ewald Balser, Oskar Werner and Judith Holzmeister in the leads, is counted as one of the most successful Austrian films ever. In the same way that his parents were pioneers of film, so Walter Kolm-Veltée was a pioneer of the development of the new medium of television. Louis Soldan (19 March 1920 – 25 April 1971) was an Austrian actor. Biography Louis Soldan was the son of the shoe manufacturer Alois Soldan. Maria Eis
Maria Eis (born Prague, 22 February 1896 - died Vienna, 18 December 1954) was an Austrian actress of stage and screen. Between 1918 and 1923 Eis performed on stage at the ''Neue Wiener Bühne'' (New Vienna stage), the ''Renaissancebühne'' (Renaissance stage) and the ''Kammerspielen''. Later, she moved to Hamburg, where she played at the Thalia Theater and at the ''Deutschen Schauspielhaus'' until 1932. When she returned to Vienna, she joined an ensemble group at the ''Burgtheatre'' (City Theatre), where she played character and tragic roles up until her death. Her performances, such as Elizabeth I, Lady Macbeth, Sappho, Medea, and Iphigenia are considered noteworthy. Eis also acted in a number of successful films after 1935. Hans Emil Thimig, pseudonym: Hans Werner (23 July 1900 in Vienna – 17 February 1991, also in Vienna) was an Austrian actor, film director, and stage director. Life The youngest son of the Burgtheater actor Hugo Thimig and Franziska "Fanny" Hummel, his siblings included actors Helene Thimig and Hermann Thimig. He performed without any training as a 16-year-old under the pseudonym "Hans Werner" at the Wiener Volkstheater. From 1918 to 1924 he was engaged – under his real name – at the Burgtheater, and then moved to the Theater in der Josefstadt, managed by his future brother-in-law Max Reinhardt. There, besides his father, his sister Helene Thimig and his brother Hermann Thimig also performed, so that the Viennese public used to call it the "Thimig-Theater". Anton Felix Schindler (13 June 1795 in Medlov – 16 January 1864 in Bockenheim (Frankfurt am Main)) was an Austrian law clerk and associate, secretary, and early biographer of Ludwig van Beethoven. Life Schindler moved to Vienna in 1813 to study law, and from 1817 to 1822 was a clerk in a law office there. He was a competent, though not an exceptional violinist, and played in various musical ensembles, first meeting Beethoven in 1814. In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines (or voices) which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour. It has been most commonly identified in the European classical tradition, strongly developing during the Renaissance and in much of the common practice period, especially in the Baroque period.
