''A Night in Venice'' (German: ''Eine Nacht in Venedig'') is a 1953 Austrian operetta film directed by Georg Wildhagen and starring Hans Olden, Jeanette Schultze and Peter Pasetti. It is adapted from the 1883 operetta ''Eine Nacht in Venedig'' by Johann Strauss, which had previously been turned into a 1934 film '' A Night in Venice'' directed by Robert Wiene.Goble p.446 The film was shot in the Soviet-controlled Rosenhügel Studios in Vienna. Robert Wiene
Robert Wiene (; 27 April 1873 – 17 July 1938) was a film director of the silent era of German cinema. He is particularly known for directing the German silent film ''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' and a succession of other German Expressionism, expressionist films. Wiene also directed a variety of other films of varying styles and genres. Following the Nazi rise to power in Germany, Wiene, who was of Jewish descent, fled into exile. Biography Early life Robert Wiene was born in Breslau, in the German Province of Silesia (now the city of Wrocław in Poland), as the elder son of the successful theatre actor Carl Wiene. His younger brother Conrad Wiene, Conrad also became an actor, but Robert Wiene at first studied law at the University of Berlin. Heinrich Schweiger (23 July 1931 – 14 July 2009) was an Austrian film and stage actor who played leading roles at the Burgtheater on the Ring beginning in 1949. Among the plays in which he starred were Schiller's ''Don Carlos'', Shakespeare's '' Othello'' and '' Richard III'' and Kurt Weill's ''The Threepenny Opera''. The actor's last roles were in ''Wallenstein'', Franz Lehár's '' Das Land des Lächelns'' and in an ORF TV series. Joseph Egger, also known as Josef Egger, (22 February 1889 – 29 August 1966) was an Austrian character actor who appeared in 76 films between 1935 and 1965. Biography The 18-year-old Egger started his stage career at the Leoben theatre. During the following decades, he also appeared at the Raimund Theater in Vienna and at the Deutsches Theater in Munich. Besides acting Egger was a well-known music hall comedian, and he was famous for doing "tricks" with his beard. Hermann Thimig (3 October 1890 – 7 July 1982) was an Austrian stage and film actor. He appeared in 102 films between 1916 and 1967. Biography Thimig came from a famous family of actors. His father, Hugo Thimig, was an actor, director and director of the Vienna Burgtheater. His siblings Helene Thimig and Hans Thimig, with whom he trained at the theater and worked together several times in films, were accomplished actors.
