Roby Yonge
Roby Yonge (July 25, 1943 – July 18, 1997) was an American radio DJ, most notable in the 1960s. He was best known for being fired from New York City station WABC in 1969, after he reported over the air that the singer Paul McCartney might have died, circulating the now infamous Paul is Dead folktale saga and conspiracy theory. Early life and education Born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Yonge grew up in Ocala, Florida. He got his first radio job at WTMC 1290 Ocala, Florida when he was 15 years old. Roby's first Miami, Florida job was as a newsman at WIOD, which was then WCKR. By the mid 1960s Roby was working for Top 40 WQAM, Miami, Florida until hired in New York City at WABC. Career Yonge moved to Miami's WQAM, where his on-air nickname was "The Big Kahuna". In December 1967, Yonge moved to New York and WABC. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Types of DJs include Radio personality, radio DJs (who host programs on music radio stations), club DJs (who work at a nightclub or music festival), mobile DJs (who are hired to work at public and private events such as weddings, parties, or festivals), and turntablism, turntablists (who use record players, usually turntables, to manipulate sounds on phonograph records). Telephone Switchboard
A telephone switchboard was a device used to connect circuits of telephones to establish telephone calls between users or other switchboards, throughout the 20th century. The switchboard was an essential component of a manual telephone exchange, and was operated by switchboard operators who used electrical cords or switches to establish the connections. The electromechanical automatic telephone exchange, invented by Almon Strowger in 1888, gradually replaced manual switchboards in central telephone exchanges around the world. In 1919, the Bell System in Canada also adopted automatic switching as its future technology, after years of reliance on manual systems. Myocardial Infarction
A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to the coronary artery of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle. The most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort which may travel into the shoulder, arm, back, neck or jaw. Often it occurs in the center or left side of the chest and lasts for more than a few minutes. The discomfort may occasionally feel like heartburn. Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, nausea, feeling faint, a cold sweat or feeling tired. About 30% of people have atypical symptoms. Women more often present without chest pain and instead have neck pain, arm pain or feel tired. Among those over 75 years old, about 5% have had an MI with little or no history of symptoms. WAXY (790 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to South Miami, Florida, with a Spanish language conservative talk format. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc. Its studios are located in Audacy's Miami office on Northwest Second Avenue, and its transmitter is in Everglades National Park. WQVN (1360 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station, licensed to North Miami and serving South Florida. It is owned by Nelson Voltaire, with the license held by Radio Piment Bouk. Programming is in the French Creole language, and is targeted at listeners from Haiti. By day, WQVN is powered at 9,300 watts non-directional. But at night, to reduce interference to other stations on 1360 AM, it reduces power to 400 watts. The transmitter is on NE 71st Street in Miami. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W272DS at 102.3 MHz.
