The Robertson Skylark SRX-1 is a five place high performance STOL aircraft designed in the 1950s. It was intended to be operated out of landing strips with cruise speeds. Design The aircraft was designed by James L. Robertson, son of William B. Robertson, Robertson Aircraft Corporation founder at the age of 27. The aircraft is designed to be stall-proof and spin-proof and is capable of a minimum flight speed. It was also the first light aircraft in America to be designed to accommodate a turboprop engine. A turbulator is a device that turns a laminar boundary layer into a turbulent boundary layer. Marion Cole (1924–2011) was an American Aerobatic pilot. Early life Cole was a flight instructor for the United States Navy in World War II. Cole performed from 1947-1957 as part of the Cole Brothers Airshows along with his brothers Lester and Duane Cole, who remained in the business for many years flying a clipped wing Taylorcraft. Cole performed in a variety of aircraft. Cole flew a 450 hp 1951 Stearman 75 with wingwalking apparatus and his name painted on the sides. Cole became the 1952 National aerobatic champion in this aircraft, selling it to Cole Brother's team member Bill Adams. A stabilator is a fully movable aircraft horizontal stabilizer. In aeronautics, spoilerons (also known as spoiler ailerons or roll spoilers) are spoilers that can be used asymmetrically as flight control surfaces to provide roll control. Operation Spoilerons roll an aircraft by reducing the lift of the downward-going wing. Unlike ailerons, spoilers do not increase the lift of the upward-going wing. A raised spoileron also increases the drag on the wing where it is deployed, causing the aircraft to yaw. Flap (aircraft)
A flap is a high-lift device used to reduce the stalling speed of an aircraft wing at a given weight. Flaps are usually mounted on the wing trailing edges of a fixed-wing aircraft. Flaps are used to reduce the take-off distance and the landing distance. Flaps also cause an increase in drag so they are retracted when not needed. The flaps installed on most aircraft are partial-span flaps; spanwise from near the wing root to the inboard end of the ailerons.
