Robert Bartko
Robert Bartko (born 23 December 1975 in Potsdam) is a German former road and track cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2014. Born in the former East Germany, Bartko won two gold medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia: in the individual and in the team pursuit. Potsdam
Potsdam () is the capital and, with around 183,000 inhabitants, largest city of the German state of Brandenburg. It is part of the Berlin/Brandenburg Metropolitan Region. Erik Zabel (; born 7 July 1970) is a German former professional road bicycle racer who raced most of his career with Telekom. With 152 professional wins and 211 wins in his career, he is considered by some to be one of the greatest German cyclists and cycling sprinters of all-time. Zabel won a record nine points classifications in grands tours including the points classification in the Tour de France six consecutive years between 1996 and 2001 and the points classification in the Vuelta a España in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Six Days Of Berlin
The Six Days of Berlin is a six-day track cycling race held annually in Berlin, Germany. The event was first held in 1909. In its first edition, 15 teams of two cyclists each competed in the exhibition hall at Berlin Zoo for glory and, not least, 5000 Goldmarks. Klaus Bugdahl holds the record of victories with nine. The time when the 6 day race is held is sometimes just in the middle of the football season, the winter is severe, and football league in Germany had rather long winter break. In the past Bundesliga was suspended from mid December to mid February. Therefore, 6-day races were considered major entertainment events at that time ( handball was to some extent). In particular, the Berlin 6-day race, which has reached the 100th race at the 2011 competition, still has a large audience, and in the heyday it was held twice a season. Andreas Kappes (23 December 1965 – 31 July 2018) was a German cyclist, who was a professional from 1987 to 2009, active on the road and on the track, collecting in total 133 wins, and, as an amateur, represented West Germany at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. During the first half of his career he mainly raced on the road, eventually resulting in 99 wins, including winning Omloop het Volk (1991), Tour de l'Oise (1991), three stages in the Tour de Suisse (1989, 1994), two stages in Paris–Nice (1988, 1991) and one stage in the 1988 Giro d'Italia. During the second half of his career he limited his activities on the road to mainly German criteriums as well as kermesses, which make up the chief part of his wins on the road.
