River Ward
River Ward or Ward 16 (French: ''Quartier Rivière'') is a municipal ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. It is located in the south central portion of the city, and includes the communities of Carlington, Central Park, Carleton Heights, Mooney's Bay, Riverside Park, and Hunt Club/ Uplands. The ward spans both sides of the Rideau River between Carling Avenue and Hunt Club Road. Prior to amalgamation, this area was part of Mooney's Bay Ward, which existed from 1994 to 2000. Before this, the ward was called Riverside Ward which was created in 1980 from parts of Elmdale-Victoria Ward and Gloucester Ward. Wendy Stewart
Wendy Stewart (née Thomas; born c. 1952) is a former Ottawa City Councillor and Ottawa-Carleton Regional Councillor. While on council, she was described as being a fiscal conservative. Stewart was born in Ottawa, and attended South Carleton High School while living in Hazeldean, Ontario, now a suburb of Ottawa. While a student at South Carleton, she was crowned "Miss Ottawa Rough Rider" in 1970, as well as "Miss Sweetheart" at her school. During her term as Miss Ottawa Rough Rider, she endorsed Howard Henry's candidacy for the Ontario Liberal Party nomination in the 1971 provincial election in Ottawa West. A month later, Stewart finished third in the "Miss Eastern Ontario" competition. Jim Bickford (politician)
James John Bickford (November 2, 1912October 3, 1989) was an American bobsledder who competed from the late 1930s to the mid-1950s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the four-man event at St. Moritz in 1948. Jim Durrell
James A. Durrell is a Canadian business owner, former politician and president of the Ottawa Senators. He served as Mayor of Ottawa from 1985 to 1991. Durrell has extensive governance experience and has served on numerous boards including the Business Development Bank of Canada, chairman of the Ottawa International Airport's Board of Directors, and chairman of the Ottawa Convention Centre. Elmdale Ward was a municipal ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 1929 when it was split off from Dalhousie Ward. It existed until 1994, when it was merged with Queensboro Ward to become Kitchissippi Ward. From 1952 to 1980, the ward was known as Elmdale-Victoria Ward, after Elmdale Ward merged with Victoria Ward. Carling Avenue is a major east–west arterial road in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It runs from March Road in Kanata to Bronson Avenue in the Glebe. The road is named for John Carling, founder of Carling Brewery and Conservative MP and Senator, Postmaster General and Minister of Agriculture. Rideau River
The Rideau River (french: Rivière Rideau) is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The river flows north from Upper Rideau Lake and empties into the Ottawa River at the Rideau Falls in Ottawa, Ontario. Its length is . As explained in a writing by Samuel de Champlain in 1613, the river was given the name "Rideau" (curtain) because of the appearance of the Rideau Falls.
