Riposto
Riposto ( scn, Ripostu) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Catania area of southern Italy. The small seafront town is located about southeast of Palermo and about north of Catania. History Riposto is both historically and literally connected to Mascali, a once fiefdom of which it had been apart of as its commercial port in the 16th century and until it had finally gained local autonomy from in the 18th century. In the early 19th century, the town would be administratively merged with Giarre and become Giarre-Riposto by Fascist Italy. It was not until 1945 would the two towns be administratively divided once again, following the end of World War II. Geography The town is located on the Ionian Coast, and borders with the municipalities of Acireale, Giarre and Mascali. Its '' frazioni'' are Altarello, Archi, Carruba, Praiola, Quartirello and Torre Archirafi. Torre Archirafi
Torre Archirafi ( scn, A Turri, italic=no) is a ''frazione ''of the comune (municipality) of Riposto in the Catania area of Sicily, southern Italy. The small fishing village is located about northeast of Catania and about south of Riposto. History The name comes from Torre di Archirafi or the Archirafi Tower, a Coastal defence and fortification, coastal watchtower, built to repel Barbary corsairs in the 16th century and later destroyed by the sea sometime in the 17th century. The town itself was ceded to the Duke of Archirafi, Giovanni Natoli Ruffo, by Charles III of Spain, King Charles III of Bourbon in the 17th century. Giarre
Giarre ( scn, Giarri) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily. The town is located about southeast of Palermo and around north of Catania. Geography Giarre is bounded by the municipalities of Acireale, Mascali, Milo, Riposto, Sant'Alfio, Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea. It forms a conurbation with the coastal town of Riposto. History Some historians suppose that the ancient Greek city of Kallipolis was situated in the same territory of the present-day town of Giarre, but nowadays there is no relevant proof of it. Since the late 16th century until 1815 Giarre was a village of the county of Mascali. During the fascist era Giarre was joined to Riposto under the name of Jonia, but separated again in 1945. Giarre-Riposto (also known as Ionia) was a ''comune'' (municipality) that existed from 1939 to 1945 in the province of Catania, Italy. History The municipality of Giarre-Riposto was created by the fascist regime in 1939, merging the municipalities of Giarre and Riposto which had previously been administratively separate. In 1942, the municipality of Giarre-Riposto had been re-named to Ionia. Federico Cafiero (24 May 1914 – 7 May 1980) was an Italian mathematician known for his contributions in real analysis, measure and integration theory, and in the theory of ordinary differential equations. In particular, generalizing the Vitali convergence theorem, the Fichera convergence theorem and previous results of Vladimir Mikhailovich Dubrovskii, he proved a necessary and sufficient condition for the passage to the limit under the sign of integral: this result is, in some sense, definitive. In the field of ordinary differential equations, he studied existence and uniqueness problems under very general hypotheses for the left member of the given first order equation, developing an important approximation method and proving a fundamental uniqueness theorem. A fief (; la, feudum) was a central element in medieval contracts based on feudal law.
