Rijnwaarden () was a municipality in the province of Gelderland, in the eastern Netherlands. The Rhine enters the Netherlands at its location. Rijnwaarden was merged into the municipality of Zevenaar on 1 January 2018. Aerdt
Aerdt is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is in the municipality of Zevenaar, about 20 km northeast of the city of Nijmegen, close to the German border. Until it became part of Rijnwaarden in 1985, Aerdt and neighbouring village Herwen constituted a separate municipality Herwen en Aerdt. Gelderland
Gelderland (), also known as Guelders () in English, is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. Lobith
Lobith is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Zevenaar. Traditionally, it is said that the Rhine enters the Netherlands at Lobith, although in reality, this happens about 4 km further upstream, near Spijk. Lobith was a separate municipality for a short while between 1 March 1817 and 1 January 1818, when it became a part of Herwen en Aerdt. History In 885, the Danish chief Godfrid was summoned to Lobith for a meeting after being accused of complicity with Hugh, Duke of Alsace in an insurrection against the emperor Charles the Fat. In an act of treachery he was killed by a group of German nobles. The village was first mentioned in 1222 as Lobedhe. The etymology is unclear. The village developed along a bend in the Rhine. Pannerden
Pannerden is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Zevenaar. Pannerden was a separate municipality from 1818 to 1985, when it became a part of the new municipality of Rijnwaarden. History The village was first mentioned between 1052 and 1056 as Pannardum. The etymology is unclear. The village developed along the Rhine. In 1284, it became part of the Duchy of Cleves. Between 1705 and 1707, the Pannerdens Kanaal to control the water flow between the Rhine and the Waal (river), Waal. In 1817, Pannerden became part of the Netherlands. In 1840, it was home to 507 people. In 1860, the postal authorities split the village in Pannerden (Oostzijde) and Pannerden (Westzijde) because it was cut in two by the canal. Since around 1970, it is once again a single village. The Catholic St.-Martinus Church was built between 1877 and 1878. The tower was destroyed in 1944 and not rebuilt. Emmerich am Rhein ( Low Rhenish and nl, Emmerik) is a city and municipality in the northwest of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city has a harbour and a quay at the Rhine. In terms of local government organization, it is a medium-sized city belonging to the district of Kleve in the administrative region (''Regierungsbezirk'') of Düsseldorf. Berg En Dal (municipality)
Berg en Dal (literally in English: ''Mountain and Valley'') is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. It was formed through a merger of the municipalities of Groesbeek, Millingen aan de Rijn and Ubbergen in 2015. The resulting larger municipality maintained the name of Groesbeek until 2016, when it was renamed to Berg en Dal after the village of Berg en Dal. Berg en Dal has about 34,714 inhabitants and covers an area of about 93 km². The municipality borders in the north on the Waal river and the Bijlands Kanaal, in the east on the German forest of the Reichswald, in the south on the province of Limburg, in the southwest on the forest of the Mookerheide (also Limburg), and in the west on the city of Nijmegen. Lingewaard
Lingewaard () is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in the province of Gelderland, in the most eastern part of the Betuwe. The municipality is situated in the lowlands between the major cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen, where most inhabitants work. Lingewaard was part of the Arnhem–Nijmegen metropolitan area until 2015. Duiven () is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands. Duiven's name can be translated into English to mean "pigeons" or "doves". Although the coat of arms and logo of the municipality feature pigeons, the name is etymologically related to "dunes" (Dutch: ''duinen''). Zevenaar
Zevenaar () is a municipality and a city in the Gelderland province, in the eastern Netherlands near the border with Germany.
