Richard Owen (priest)
The Ven. Richard Henry Owen was Archdeacon of St Asaph from 1964 to 1970. He was born in 1899 and educated at the University of Wales and ordained in 1921. He began his career as a Curate in Colwyn Bay. After this he held incumbencies at Llantysilio, Bangor-on-Dee, Rhosymedre and Prestatyn, and finally St John's Church, Trofarth. Venerable
The Venerable (''venerabilis'' in Latin) is a style, a title, or an epithet which is used in some Western Christian churches, or it is a translation of similar terms for clerics in Eastern Orthodoxy and monastics in Buddhism. Prestatyn
Prestatyn is a seaside town and community in Denbighshire, Wales. Historically a part of Flintshire, it is located on the Irish Sea coast, to the east of Rhyl. The Diocese of Saint Asaph is a diocese of the Church in Wales in north-east Wales, named after Saint Asaph, its second bishop. Geography The Anglican Diocese of St Asaph in the north-east corner of Wales stretches from the borders of Chester in the east, to the Conwy valley in the west, to Bala in the south-west, and Newtown in the south-east. The population is in excess of half a million people. The more populous areas are to be found along the coast and in the large conurbation of Wrexham, the principal town. St John's Church, Trofarth
St John's Church, Trofarth, is a redundant church standing in an isolated position in Conwy County Borough, Wales (). It was designated as a Grade II listed building on 2 July 1998. It was built in 1873 as an Anglican church to a design by Sir George Gilbert Scott and consecrated on 19 June that year. A small church with lancet windows, it consisted of a nave, a small chancel, a south porch and it had a bellcote at the west end. It was restored in 1899 by the Chester firm of architects, Douglas and Fordham, who added a vestry at the northeast and an organ chamber, and increased the size of the chancel by extending it into the nave. At the same time the internal plaster was removed and replaced by a veneer of limestone, and furnishings designed by Douglas were added. In January 2009 permission was obtained for the building to be converted for domestic use. There is a churchyard to the west side of the redundant church. Rhosymedre
Rhosymedre () is a village within the community of Cefn, in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The Anglican church, which was consecrated in 1837, is dedicated to St John the Evangelist, and is part of the Diocese of St Asaph. Former vicars include John David Edwards (vicar from 1843 to 1885), whose most famous hymn tune composition is Rhosymedre, upon which Ralph Vaughan Williams later based an organ prelude. The quarry behind Rock Road was originally the source of stones for building the Llangollen Canal, and also the houses of the local mining community. Rhosymedre Halt railway station served the village from 1906 to 1959.
