Rich Duwelius
Richard Lloyd "Rich" Duwelius (born November 23, 1954, in Benton, Kentucky) is a former volleyball player from the United States who was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Background Duwelius began playing volleyball at Ohio State University during the 1970s. After graduation from Ohio State, he started working out with the men's national team, whose training facility was in Ohio. He stayed through the 1984 Olympics, winning a gold medal. He retired from the national team after the Olympics and help coach at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut and the Coast Guard Academy, which is in New London as well. Duwelius is now the head coach of the Ledyard High School girls' volleyball team, in Ledyard, Connecticut. Benton, Kentucky
Benton is a home rule-class city in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The current mayor of this city is Rita Dotson. The population was 4,756 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. History Benton was founded in 1842 by John Bearden and Francis H. Clayton. The town was named for Thomas Hart Benton, a senator from Missouri. Benton was then incorporated in 1845. In 1908, Benton drove its African American residents out of town, becoming a sundown town along with the rest of Marshall County. On January 23, 2018, a shooting occurred at Marshall County High School, near Benton, resulting in 19 injuries and 2 fatalities. USA Volleyball
USA Volleyball (USAV) is a non-profit organization which is recognized as the national governing body of volleyball in the United States by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). It is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was founded by the YMCA of the USA. Doug Beal
Doug Beal (born March 4, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American volleyball player and coach, a former USA Volleyball CEO, and a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Marc Robert Waldie (born August 24, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas) is a former volleyball player from the United States. He was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Waldie played volleyball for Ohio State University. Steve Timmons
Steve Dennis Timmons (born November 29, 1958) is an American former volleyball player who represented the United States at three consecutive Summer Olympics starting in 1984, winning gold in 1984 and 1988 plus a bronze in 1992. Steve played volleyball and basketball at Newport Harbor High School. He then attended Orange Coast College (OCC), playing for the OCC Pirates basketball team that won the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state basketball championship and the Pirates volleyball team that was runner-up in the CCCAA state volleyball championship. Timmons then attended the University of Southern California, playing for the Trojans volleyball team that won the 1980 NCAA men's volleyball tournament. Paul Benedict Sunderland (born March 29, 1952) is an American professional sportscaster who resides in Los Angeles, California. He worked as the indoor volleyball play-by-play announcer for NBC Olympics’ coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics, and has worked for the NBC Sports Group's Summer Olympics coverage starting at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Patrick Robert Powers (born February 13, 1958, in Los Angeles, California) is a former volleyball player from the United States. Powers was a member of the American Men's National Team that won the gold medal at the Volleyball at the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984 Summer Olympics. Powers, who prepped at Santa Monica High School, transferred to the University of Southern California after helping Santa Monica College win the 1977 state J.C. title.
