Renkum () is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands. The municipality had a population of in and has a land area of . Renkum is situated along the river Rhine. The municipality Renkum is part of the ''Stadsregio'' (English: City region) Arnhem-Nijmegen. The surrounding of the municipality are mainly forest and river forelands. In the forest one can find tumulus of thousand years old. Findings from these tumulus can be seen in the Historic museum in Arnhem. History Renkum is more than a thousand years old. Oosterbeek
Oosterbeek is a village in the eastern part of Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Renkum in the province of Gelderland, about west of Arnhem. The oldest part of Oosterbeek is the Benedendorp (Lower Village), on the northern bank of the Lower Rhine. One landmark in the village is the Hervormde Kerk (Reformed Church), which has certain architectural sections that date back to the second half of the 10th century. Oosterbeek was a separate municipality until 1818, when the area was divided between Doorwerth and the village of Renkum. In the 19th century, several mansions were built on the higher ground to the north of the old village. One of these mansions, called De Hemelse Berg, was destroyed in 1944. Doorwerth
Doorwerth is a village in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Renkum, Gelderland, about 8 km west of Arnhem and about 100 km southeast of Amsterdam. History The valley of the Seelbeek has been in residential use since prehistoric times. The recorded history of Doorwerth started in the early middle ages when a small castle was built in the Seelbeek valley and later the current Doorwerth Castle was founded. The old village grew around the castle near the banks of the river Rhine. Most of the houses of the old village near the castle were damaged during World War II, all of them where abandoned and demolished after the war. Wolfheze
Wolfheze is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Renkum, 10 km northwest of the city of Arnhem.''ANWB Topografische Atlas Nederland'', Topografische Dienst and ANWB, 2005. History Stone Age-Middle Ages Wolfheze, literally meaning 'the young forest where wolves live', started as a living area at the slopes of the natural streams which still run the little valley. Heelsum
Heelsum is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Renkum, west of Arnhem.''ANWB Topografische Atlas Nederland'', Topografische Dienst and ANWB, 2005. Part of the Battle of Arnhem was fought in and around Heelsum. The initial British landings were carried out just north of the village. History The village was first mentioned around 1160 as in Helessem, and means "settlement of Hele (person)". Helsum is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Middle Ages near the brook Heelsumse beek. It became a separate parish in 1517. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1517 by the lady of the castle Margaretha van Homoet. It was expanded in 1859. The Catholic community wanted an own church as well. On 1 April 1950 announced plans to built a church, however the municipality preferred villas at the location. Heveadorp
Heveadorp is a village near Doorwerth in the municipality of Renkum, Gelderland, the Netherlands. The village is situated in a valley surrounded by forest. The creek runs through the village. Heveadorp was founded in 1916 by Dirk Frans Wilhelmi as a List of company towns, company town for the workers of his natural rubber, rubber factory Heveafabriek. ''Hevea'' is the scientific name for the rubber plant. During the German occupation of the Netherlands the factory was used for war purposes. During Operation Market Garden, the factory and village were severely damaged. In 1962, Heave merged with Apollo Vredestein and the factory was moved to Renkum (village), Renkum in 1975. The 400 villagers who remained, refused to leave the village. In 2009, it was officially recognised as a village. Nol Hendriks
Arnold (Nol) Hendriks (15 May 1937 – 21 October 2017) was a Dutch businessman and football executive. Business career Born in Renkum, he moved to Limburg with his parents when his father started working in the mines in Heerlen. He later worked in the mines himself and as a grocer and dry-cleaner, before becoming a self-made millionaire in the textile business. Roda JC Hendriks got involved in the Roda JC football club in the early 1980s. He started backing the club financially and became a technical director as well as a member of Roda's supervisory board.
