Renhō
, commonly known by her given name, , is a Japanese politician and former journalist who is a current member of House of Councillors. She was the leader of the now-defunct major Japanese opposition party, the Democratic Party. Early and personal life Born Hsieh Lien-fang () in Tokyo to a Japanese mother () and Taiwanese father (), she studied at Aoyama Gakuin in Tokyo from kindergarten through university. She enrolled in the law faculty of Aoyama Gakuin University and graduated in 1990 with the B.L. degree in Public Law. Born as a citizen of the Republic of China, she did not become a citizen of Japan until 1985 when the Nationality Law was amended to allow Japanese mothers to pass Japanese nationality to their children. She was legally a dual citizen until 2016. She adopted her mother's surname, , when she acquired Japanese citizenship; to avoid name confusion in her career, she began to go simply by Renhō. The Tokyo at-large district is a constituency of the House of Councillors (Japan), House of Councillors in the National Diet (national legislature of Japan). It consists of Tokyo and elects six Councillors for six-year terms every three years by single non-transferable vote. A Clarion Girl is a Japanese campaign girl chosen to represent the Clarion car audio products in television and print advertising campaigns. A new representative is chosen annually, and many careers have been launched or enhanced due to being selected during the annual contest. The Clarion Girl campaigns began in 1975 with the selection of Agnes Lum as the first Clarion Girl. Setsuko Karasuma, Masumi Miyazaki, and Renhō were chosen in following years. Yukio Edano
is a Japanese politician who served as the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan from its formation in 2017 until 2021. A member of the House of Representatives in the Diet since 1993, he served as Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) government from 2010 to 2012. Following the CDP's poor performance in the 2021 general election, Edano announced on 2 November his intention to resign as leader of the party, triggering a leadership election. Taiwanese people may be generally considered the people of Taiwan who share a common culture, ancestry and speak Taiwanese Mandarin, Hokkien, Hakka or indigenous Taiwanese languages as a mother tongue.
