Renaat Demoen
Renaat Demoen (11 June 1914 – 22 May 1986) was a Belgian illustrator and comics creator. He is most associated with the children's magazines of De Goede Pers, among them Zonneland. Biography Renaat Demoen worked for a number of publishers, including Lannoo, when he met Nonkel Fons, editor-in-chief of the youth publications of Averbode, in 1942. Demoen soon becomes one of the main illustrators for the magazines, and lives at the medieval gate house of the Averbode Abbey until his marriage in 1968, when he moves to the village of Averbode. Demoen was a self-taught illustrator and layouter. When the magazine ''Zonneland'' reappeared after the second World War, he redesigned the magazine, provided most of the illustrations, and created a comic for the front page. He created 15 comics between 1945 and 1959, but only a few of those were published in book format at the time. Willy Vandersteen
Willy Vandersteen (15 February 1913 – 28 August 1990) was a Belgian creator of comic books. In a career spanning 50 years, he created a large studio and published more than 1,000 comic albums in over 25 series, selling more than 200 million copies worldwide. Considered together with Marc Sleen the founding father of Flemish comics, he is mainly popular in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Hergé called him "The Brueghel of the comic strip", while the creation of his own studio and the mass production and commercialization of his work turned him into "the Walt Disney of the Low Countries". Vandersteen is best known for ''Suske en Wiske'' (published in English as ''Spike and Suzy'', ''Luke and Lucy'', ''Willy and Wanda'' or ''Bob and Bobette''), which in 2008 sold 3.5 million books. Marc Sleen
Marcel Honoree Nestor ( ridder) Neels (30 December 1922 – 6 November 2016), known as Marc Sleen, was a Belgian cartoonist. He was mostly known for his comic '' The Adventures of Nero and Co.'', but also created gag comics like '' Piet Fluwijn en Bolleke'', ''De Lustige Kapoentjes'', '' Doris Dobbel'', '' Oktaaf Keunink'' and ''De Ronde van Frankrijk''. Sleen was one of the most celebrated comics artists in his home country. His work is admired for its absurd and sometimes satirical comedy, as well for the fact that he worked completely singlehandedly without any assistance for 45 years on end, a feat that landed him a spot in ''The Guinness Book of Records'' in 1992.
