Remember Mary Magdalen
''Remember Mary Magdalen'' is a 1914 silent short drama film directed by Allan Dwan and featuring Pauline Bush, Murdock MacQuarrie, and Lon Chaney. The film is now considered lost. Plot Repenting of a foolish mistake she made in her youth, a fallen woman returns to her home town planning to settle down, only to find that her parents have died. As she walks through the streets, the villagers shun her and news quickly spreads that the repentant sinner has returned. The citizens call upon their new minister to force the woman to leave town. When he delivers their message, she refuses to leave her parents' house and he is touched by the sincerity of her repentance, and develops strong feelings for her. Meanwhile, a mob gathers to drive her out of the village. The woman bravely steps outside to meet them, but they jeer and throw stones at her until the minister steps in to protect her. Allan Dwan
Allan Dwan (born Joseph Aloysius Dwan; April 3, 1885 – December 28, 1981) was a pioneering Canadian-born American motion picture director, producer, and screenwriter. Early life Born Joseph Aloysius Dwan in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Dwan, was the younger son of commercial traveler of woolen clothing Joseph Michael Dwan (1857–1917) and his wife Mary Jane Dwan, née Hunt. The family moved to the United States when he was seven years old on December 4, 1892 by ferry from Windsor to Detroit, according to his naturalization petition of August 1939. His elder brother, Leo Garnet Dwan (1883–1964), became a physician. Allan Dwan studied engineering at the University of Notre Dame and then worked for a lighting company in Chicago. He had a strong interest in the fledgling motion picture industry, and when Essanay Studios offered him the opportunity to become a scriptwriter, he took the job. Pauline Bush (actress)
Pauline Elvira Bush (May 22, 1886 – November 1, 1969) was an American silent film actress. She was nicknamed "The Madonna of the Movies". Early years Born in Wahoo, Nebraska, Bush was "brought up for the operatic stage and concert platform, utshe preferred the stage." She studied at the University of Nebraska after attending a private school in Virginia. At Nebraska, she studied "music generally, and the piano in particular." After she moved to Los Angeles, Bush studied expression and literature at the Cumnock Institution. Career Early in her career, Bush was active in stock theater at the Liberty Theater in Oakland, California. Her film career began with the American Film Manufacturing Company. From 1910 to 1924, she appeared in some 250 movies, dozens of them featuring Lon Chaney. She retired in 1916. Personal life Bush married director Allan Dwan in 1915. They divorced in 1919.
