Reinhardt Kristensen
Reinhardt Møbjerg Kristensen (born 1948) is a Denmark, Danish invertebrate biologist, noted for the discovery of three new phylum, phyla of microscopic animals: the Loricifera in 1983, the Symbion, Cycliophora in 1995, and the Limnognathia, Micrognathozoa in 2000. He is also considered one of the world's leading experts on Tardigrada, tardigrades. His recent field of work revolves mostly around arctic biology. He is also known for documenting ''Dendrogramma'', an invertebrate genus that was later classified as Siphonophorae of the family Rhodaliidae. Loricifera Kristensen collected the first members of the Loricifera phylum in Roscoff, France, in 1970, but did not describe it until 1983.Heiner, I. 2005. Roscoff
Roscoff (; br, Rosko) is a commune in the Finistère département of Brittany in northwestern France. Roscoff is renowned for its picturesque architecture, labelled (small town of character) since 2009. Roscoff is also a traditional departure point for Onion Johnnies. After lobbying by local economic leaders headed by Alexis Gourvennec, the French government agreed in 1968 to provide a deep-water port at Roscoff. Existing ferry operators were reluctant to take on the relatively long Plymouth–Roscoff crossing so Gourvennec and colleagues founded Brittany Ferries. Since the early 1970s Roscoff has been developed as a ferry port for the transport of Breton agricultural produce and for motor tourism. ''Limnognathia maerski'' is a microscopic freshwater animal, discovered living in warm springs on Disko Island, Greenland, in 1994. Since then, it was also found in Crozet Islands of Antarctica.). Symbion Pandora
''Symbion pandora'' is a jug-shaped microscopic aquatic animal that dwells on the mouth-parts of Norway lobsters. The animals are less than ½ mm wide, with sac-like bodies, and three distinctly different forms in different parts of their three-stage life cycle. Classification and naming They are so unlike any known animal that its discovery by Danish scientists in 1995 led to the creation of a new phylum. The phylum Cycliophora, from the Greek for 'carrying a small wheel', was named after the creature's circular mouth. Two other members of that phylum have since been discovered. ''Symbion'' refers to the animal's symbiotic relationship with its lobster host while the specific epithet ''pandora'' refers to the part of the organism's life cycle that reminded Funch and Christensen of the mythical Pandora's box.
