Regents (punk Rock Band)
Regents is an American punk rock band formed in 2007 by former Sleepytime Trio and Maximillian Colby guitar/vocalists Drew Ringo and David NeSmith and drummer Jason Hamacher of Frodus. Originally a keytar and drum duo called ''Regions'', the pair recruited NeSmith's Sleepytime Trio and Maximillian Colby bandmate Drew Ringo, as well as former The Exploder bassist Dan Evans and begun playing under the name Regents. In 2012, they played a show at SXSW South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Te .... Frodus
Frodus (a.k.a. Frodus Conglomerate International, Frodus Sound Laboratories, FCI, Frodus Escape Plan, Frodus Deposit Insurance Corporation) was an American post-hardcore band formed in 1993 in Washington, D.C. by vocalist/guitarist Shelby Cinca and drummer Jason Hamacher. The band went through numerous bassists over the course of their career. Their mixture of math rock and hardcore punk plus their lyrical themes, frequently dark and dissonant and seen as esoteric for the time, led them to be described by critics as one of the most influential post-hardcore bands of the 1990s. Jason Hamacher
Jason Hamacher is an American musician. He was the drummer for the bands Frodus, Aside from music, Hamacher is an accomplished photographer and documentarian and runs Lost Origin Productions LLC. He is currently working in Syria with the ancient Aramaic speaking Syriac Orthodox Church. In March 2008, Hamacher starred in the documentary short, ''Old Soul'' which won the 2008 International Documentary Challenge. Lost Origin Productions will release Hamacher's field recordings of the earliest known Christian chant, publish a book of his Syrian photography entitled ''Aleppo, Syria: Witness to an Ancient Legacy'', and launch an international series of limited edition cross cultural images. In between 2006 and 2010, Hamacher recorded ancient Syria chants on his journeys. Keytar
The keytar is a lightweight synthesizer that is supported by a strap around the neck and shoulders, similar to the way a guitar is supported by a strap. Keytars allow players a greater range of movement onstage, compared to conventional keyboards, which are placed on stationary stands or which are part of heavy, floor-mounted structures. The instrument has a musical keyboard for triggering musical notes and sounds. Various controls are placed on the instrument's "neck", including those for pitch bends, vibrato, portamento, and sustain. The term "keytar" is a portmanteau of the words "keyboard" and "guitar". This style of keyboard was mostly referred to by manufacturers as a "MIDI Controller", "Remote Keyboard", "Strap-on Keyboard", or variations thereof. South By Southwest
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. There was no in-person event in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austin, Texas; both years, there was a smaller online event instead. SXSW is run by the company SXSW, LLC, which organizes conferences, trade shows, festivals, and other events.
