Red Velvet (group)
Red Velvet (Korean: 레드벨벳; romanized: ''Ledeubelbet''; Japanese: レッドベルベット; romanized: ''Reddoberubetto'') is a South Korean girl group formed and managed by SM Entertainment. They originally debuted on August 1, 2014, with the single "Happiness" with the four-member line-up of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. A fifth member, Yeri, joined the group in March 2015, following the release of their first mini album, ''Ice Cream Cake''. Musically, the work of Red Velvet reflects their own group name: their predominantly- pop "red" side experiments occasionally with electronic and funk, and while their "velvet" side focuses on '90s-influenced R&B with elements of ballad and hip hop. Their genre versatility and hooks have garnered critical praise. Happiness (Red Velvet Song)
"Happiness" () is the debut single recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. The song was composed by Yoo Young-jin, Will Sims, Chad Hugo, Anne Judith Wik, and Chris Holsten, with production from Hugo and Simms. It was released digitally by SM Entertainment on August 4, 2014, in South Korea. The song also marked their first release under the Red Velvet moniker and their first as a quartet, introducing the four members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy to the public. An urban Euro-pop track, it is about how you can feel empowered and love yourself more by appreciating the small joys in life. Upon its release, "Happiness" received mixed reviews from music critics for its mish-mash of different sounds and styles and not much satisfaction with just this one song. ''#Cookie Jar'' ''(Hashtag Cookie Jar)'' is the debut Japanese extended play and the by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. Following the group's initial Japan showcase in October 2017, SM Entertainment announced that the group would "formally" debut in Japan in July 2018 with a Japanese release. The extended play was then released on July 4, 2018, by Avex Trax and features a total of six Japanese tracks; containing three re-recorded versions of their previous hits – namely " Dumb Dumb", " Russian Roulette", and "Red Flavor", while also featuring three original Japanese tracks. Background and release On May 23, 2018, the group announced the release of their debut Japanese album titled ''#Cookie Jar'' for July 4, through their official Japanese website, declaring it to be their first mini-album in the region. The Circle Digital Chart, previously known as the Gaon Digital Chart, is the music industry standard record chart ranking the 200 most popular singles in South Korea. It provides rankings on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, which is based on an aggregate of streaming, downloads and background music from major South Korean music platforms. It is a part of the Circle Chart, previously known as the Gaon Chart. History The Gaon Digital Chart was launched as a part of the Gaon Chart in February 2010, by Korea Music Content Association and South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. "Power Up" is a Korean song recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet for their second special (sixth overall) Korean extended play, titled '' Summer Magic'' (2018). Characterized as an electro-pop song with elements of chip-music, the song was penned by Kenzie and was produced by production duo Moonshine, Ellen Berg Tollbom and Swedish singer-songwriter Cazzi Opeia, whom worked on the group's previous single " Peek-a-Boo".
