Red Velvet (group)
Red Velvet (Korean: 레드벨벳; romanized: ''Ledeubelbet''; Japanese: レッドベルベット; romanized: ''Reddoberubetto'') is a South Korean girl group formed and managed by SM Entertainment. They originally debuted on August 1, 2014, with the single "Happiness" with the four-member line-up of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. A fifth member, Yeri, joined the group in March 2015, following the release of their first mini album, ''Ice Cream Cake''. Musically, the work of Red Velvet reflects their own group name: their predominantly-pop "red" side experiments occasionally with electronic and funk, and while their "velvet" side focuses on '90s-influenced R&B with elements of ballad and hip hop. "Happiness" () is the debut single recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. ''#Cookie Jar'' ''(Hashtag Cookie Jar)'' is the debut Japanese extended play and the by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. Following the group's initial Japan showcase in October 2017, SM Entertainment announced that the group would "formally" debut in Japan in July 2018 with a Japanese release. The extended play was then released on July 4, 2018, by Avex Trax and features a total of six Japanese tracks; containing three re-recorded versions of their previous hits – namely " Dumb Dumb", " Russian Roulette", and " Red Flavor", while also featuring three original Japanese tracks. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century.
