Red Pockau
The Red Pockau (german: Rote Pockau) is a left tributary of the Black Pockau in the Ore Mountains. Course It rises at a height of about 760 m above sea level (NN), about northwest of the village of in the municipality of Marienberg. Between the Marienberg and the roughly 100 metre higher Kühnhaide plateaux the Red Pockau has cut deeply into the terrain. Below the ponds called the Rätzteiche, there is a steep-sided V-shaped valley that becomes more canyon-like below Pobershau. At the northern exit of Pobershau it collects the Schlettenbach stream. A few hundred metres further on the Red Pockau discharges into the Black Pockau at a height of about 490 m above sea level (NN). Black Pockau
The Black Pockau (german: Schwarze Pockau or ''Schwarzwasser'', cz, Černá) is a river of Saxony, Germany, in the Ore Mountains. It is a left tributary of the Flöha. This virtually unspoilt wild stream with a length of is known for the picturesque gorge in its middle reaches. Its murky waters flowing from bogs in the hills give the river a dark colour. The name Pockau, which was recorded in similar form in 1292, probably comes from the Czech and means "opposed", i.e. a stream flowing from Bohemia towards the north. Course The Black Pockau rises 890 metres above sea level (NHN) in a raised bog northeast of the Jelení hora in the Bohemian Ore Mountains. Marienberg, Saxony
Marienberg is a town in Germany. It was the district capital of the Mittlerer Erzgebirgskreis (Central Ore Mountains district) in the southern part of Saxony, and since August 2008 it has been part of the new district of Erzgebirgskreis. As of 2020, the town had 16,716 inhabitants. Location and design The town is situated on a plateau north of the Ore Mountain ridge, at an elevation between 460 and 891 metres above sea level.
