Rasmus Lyberth
Rasmus Ole Lyberth (born 21 August 1951) is a Greenlandic musician and actor. Since 1970, he has been one of the most popular artists in the Greenlandic music scene. His music is well known beyond the borders of Greenland. Biography Rasmus Lyberth was born in Maniitsoq, but grew up in Nuuk, where as a 12-year-old he began performing and playing the guitar. He is the son of a teacher and writer Erik Lyberth and Emma Lyberth. In 1969 he began performing in Copenhagen. In 1974 he recorded his first album, ''Erningaa''. ''Erningaa'' was successful and was followed by his second album, ''Piumassuseq nukiuvoq'', at which point he went on hiatus. He also appeared on the stage of the Greenlandic Tuukaq Teatret, and gave many concerts not only in Denmark and Greenland, but also in many countries in Europe and North America. Tall Ships' Races
The Tall Ships Races are races for sail training "tall ships" (sailing ships). The races are designed to encourage international friendship and training for young people in the art of sailing. The races are held annually in European waters and consists of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a "cruise in company" between the legs. Over one half of the crew of each ship participating in the races must consist of young people. Between 1973 and 2003 the races were known as The Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races, having been sponsored by Cutty Sark whisky. From 2004 to 2010 the races were supported by the City, Province and Port of Antwerp. The sponsor of the Tall Ships Races 2010–2014 was the city of Szczecin. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (), also known as Melodi Grand Prix or simply DMGP, is an annual music competition organised by the Danish public broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR) since 1957, which determines the for the Eurovision Song Contest. The festival has produced three Eurovision winners and fourteen top-five placings. History With the introduction of a semi-final at the 2004 contest, and due to Denmark's absence from the 2003 contest, Denmark's 2004 representative, Tomas Thordarson, had to take part in the semi-final. His song, " Shame on You" did not reach the final, finishing 13th in a field of 22 contestants. In 2005, DR made a bold step for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Artists were allowed, for the first time ever, to sing in a language other than Danish. ''Qaamarngup uummataa'' ( da, Lysets hjerte) (English title: ''Heart of light'') is a 1998 Greenlandic and Danish produced drama film directed and written by Jacob Grønlykke.Gilmore, Geoffrey (1999)"Heart of Light". Sundance Film Festival Archives. It is the first major production for a film to be completely shot in Greenland. The film is about an Inuit alcoholic, who has to come to terms with his criminal son. Danish Language
Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Communities of Danish speakers are also found in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the northern German region of Southern Schleswig, where it has minority language status. Greenlandic Language
Greenlandic ( kl, kalaallisut, link=no ; da, grønlandsk ) is an Eskimo–Aleut language with about 56,000 speakers, mostly Greenlandic Inuit in Greenland. It is closely related to the Inuit languages in Canada such as Inuktitut. It is the most widely spoken Eskimo–Aleut language. Greenlandic has been the sole official language of the Greenlandic autonomous territory since June 2009, which is a move by the Naalakkersuisut, the government of Greenland, to strengthen the language in its competition with the colonial language, Danish. Lars Lilholt (born in Herlev, Denmark on 14 March 1953) is a Danish singer, violinist, guitarist and composer. Career Kræn Bysted's In the early 1970s, he was part of Kræn Bysted's, a Danish acoustic folk, electric folk and rock group made up of Lars Lilholt, Jacob Ohrt and Lars Dam, all from Aalborg. The singer Inger Nyholm from Silkeborg joined in 1975 and drummer Jens Jørgen Pedersen in 1977.
