Randstadrail
RandstadRail () is a light rail network in the Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area in the west of the Netherlands that is jointly operated by HTM Personenvervoer (HTM) and Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET). It connects the cities of Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer, primarily using former train and existing tram tracks. Named after the Randstad conurbation, the light rail network came into operation in 2006, after regular train services on the Hofpleinlijn and Zoetermeer Stadslijn had been discontinued. The system consists of four routes and serves 73 stations, with a total length of approximately . In 2018, it had a daily ridership of around 125,000 passengers. Leidschenveen RandstadRail Station
Leidschenveen is the RandstadRail station in the centre of Leidschenveen in the neighbourhood Leidschenveen-Ypenburg in The Hague, Netherlands. The station features 2 platforms on a viaduct. These have a high and a low platform, with tram lines RandstadRail 3 and RandstadRail 4 using the lower platforms, and metro line E using the higher platforms. Leidschenveen is the station where the metro and the tram lines split, with the metro (line E) continuing to Rotterdam, while the trams (3 & 4) continue to Zoetermeer. The RandstadRail station opened on 29 October 2006 for the HTM tram services (4) and for the RET metro service (line E), and on 20 October 2007 for tram service 3. HTM Personenvervoer
HTM Personenvervoer NV (HTM, from the former name Haagsche Tramweg Maatschappij) is a public transport company in the Netherlands operating trams, lightrail and buses in The Hague, Rijswijk, Leidschendam, Voorburg, Delft, Zoetermeer, Wateringen, Pijnacker and Nootdorp, the so-called Conurbation Haaglanden. The lightrail connection (called RandstadRail, RR) to Zoetermeer is operated in cooperation with RET, the Rotterdam-public transport company, which operates the connection between The Hague Central Station and Slinge in the south of Rotterdam, thus giving a fast and easy connection between the two city-centres. Regional transports are serviced by Connexxion, Arriva and RET. In September 2012 it was announced that Dutch Railways (NS) wanted to acquire a 49% stake in HTM. Zoetermeer
Zoetermeer () is a city in the Western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. A small village until the late 1960s, it had 6,392 inhabitants in 1950. Meijersplein / Airport is a metro station, as a part of the Rotterdam metro and the regional light rail system RandstadRail, located in Schiebroek, a borough of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. History Construction of Meijersplein station began in January 2008. The station was built to replace Wilgenplas station, located approximately north. Wilgenplas was served by railway trains on the Hofplein line before that line was converted for use by metro trains and the station was temporarily kept in service after this conversion took place in 2006. In May 2010 construction of Meijersplein station completed and Wilgenplas station was duly closed down on 12 May. Zoetermeer Stadslijn
Zoetermeer Stadslijn is a light-rail line converted from a former commuter rail line in the Netherlands, between The Hague and Zoetermeer. History Originally, the line was managed by the Dutch Railways (NS). Since June 2006, it has served as a light-rail line, using trams. The light-rail connection, combined with The Hague-Rotterdam line, is called the RandstadRail. After the Oosterheem neighbourhood was built in Zoetermeer, an extra track was added. It does not take the round line, unlike the other routes, but splits between Seghweart and Leidsewallen stations. Lines Since the extra Oosterheem line was added, two lines reach the Zoetermeer Stadslijn and are called line 3 and line 4.
