Ralf Tyra
Ralf Tyra (born 1958, in Osnabrück) is a German Lutheran theologian and pastor. Since September 2008 he is the Director of the House of church Offices of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hanover. Career Ralf Tyra studied theology in Münster and Tübingen. After serving as vicar in Osnabrück, he became a research associate at the School of Theology in Berlin. From 1989 to 1996 was Ralf Tyra pastor at the St. Paul Church in Wolfsburg. In 1996, Tyra was appointed Secretary and CEO of the Hanns-Lilje Foundation ( Hanns-Lilje-Stiftung ). In 2008 Pastor Ralf Tyra was director of the House of church Offices. A pastor (abbreviated as "Pr" or "Ptr" , or "Ps" ) is the leader of a Christian congregation who also gives advice and counsel to people from the community or congregation. In Lutheranism, Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy and Anglicanism, pastors are always ordained. In Methodism, pastors may be either licensed or ordained. Hanns Lilje
Johannes (Hanns) Ernst Richard Lilje (20 August 1899, in Hannover – 6 January 1977, in Hannover) was German Lutheran bishop and one of the pioneers of the ecumenical movement. Lilje was general secretary of the German Student Christian Movement 1924–34. He was involved in Confessing Church struggle in Nazi Germany from 1933 onwards. After World War II he became the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran State Church of Hanover in 1947 until his retirement. He was also the presiding bishop of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany 1955–69, president of the Lutheran World Federation and World Council of Churches. He was also abbot of Loccum under title Johannes XI. Following WWII Lilje authored "The Valley of the Shadow" about his experiences during his imprisonment by the Nazis. Loccum Abbey (Kloster Loccum) is a Lutheran monastery in the town of Rehburg-Loccum, Lower Saxony, near Steinhude Lake. History Originating as a foundation of Count Wilbrand of Hallermund, Loccum Abbey was settled from Volkenroda Abbey under the first abbot, Ekkehard, in 1163. An ancient account describes it as being ''"in loco horroris et vastæ solitudinis et prædonum et latronum commorationis"'' ("in a place of horror and a desert of solitude and a dwelling of thieves and brigands"); and adds that, after suffering much from want and from the barbarity of their neighbours, the monks in time brought the land into cultivation, and the people to the fear of God.
