Poland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2021
Poland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song " The Ride" written by Joakim Övrenius, Thomas Karlsson, Clara Rubensson and Johan Mauritzson. The song was performed by Rafał. In March 2021, the Polish broadcaster (TVP) announced that the Polish entry for the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands would be selected through an internal selection. Rafał and the song "The Ride" were announced as the Polish entry on 12 March 2021 during the TVP2 programme . Poland was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 20 May 2021. Performing during the show in position 6, "The Ride" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the second semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. It was later revealed that Poland placed fourteenth out of the 17 participating countries in the semi-final with 35 points. Rafał Blechacz (; born 30 June 1985) is a Polish classical pianist who rose to fame after decisively winning the XV International Chopin Piano Competition in 2005. Biography Blechacz began piano lessons at the age of five, and enrolled in the National Arthur Rubinstein Music School in Bydgoszcz three years later. In May 2007, he graduated from the Feliks Nowowiejski Music Academy in Bydgoszcz with professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń. Rafał Gan-Ganowicz (23 April 1932 – 22 November 2002) was a Polish soldier-in-exile, mercenary, journalist, member of the National Council of Poland, and political and social activist, dedicating his life to anti-communism. Early life Rafał Gan-Ganowicz was born in Wawer-Warsaw on 23 April 1932. His family is descended from Tatars who settled in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th century. His father served in the French Foreign Legion for a time, and later traveled to South America for business, investing in a rubber plantation in Brazil and gold mines in Argentina. Rafał Dutkiewicz (born 6 July 1959, Mikstat) is a Polish politician and entrepreneur who served as the city mayor of Wrocław, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland from 2002 to 2018. Rafał Augustyn (born August 28, 1951, in Wrocław, Poland) is a composer of classical music, and a pianist, music critic, writer and scholar of Polish philology. As a composer he has written symphonies, chamber orchestra works, vocal and electronic music, as well as music for theatre. Since the mid-1990s, Augustyn has collaborated with visual artists, architects and photographers on numerous multimedia art works. Education and career Augustyn studied composition under Ryszard Bukowski at the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław between 1971 and 1974, and between 1975 and 1977 at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice, where he studied under Henryk Górecki. In 1979, Augustyn began to teach at the Institute of Polish Philology at Wrocław University and has remained there since. Rafał Piotr Bruski (born 1 July 1962 in Bydgoszcz) is a Polish politician who is a president of Bydgoszcz (since 2010), was a Voivode of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (2007-2010) and a former Deputy- President of Bydgoszcz (2006-2007).
