Radu Timofte
Alexandru-Radu Timofte (; 7 April 1949 – 19 October 2009) was a Romanian soldier, politician and spy chief. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he sat in the Romanian Senate from 1990 to 2001, representing Neamț County. From 2001 to 2006, he headed ''Serviciul Român de Informații'' (SRI), the country's domestic intelligence service. Biography Born in Horia, Neamț County, Timofte attended the Roman-Vodă High School in Roman and then graduated from the Command and General Staff Faculty of the Military Academy in Bucharest. He was an active-duty officer at the Interior Ministry until 1988, when he was sent into the reserves because his sister had remained abroad illegally. Right after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, Timofte participated in governing the town of Roman as a member of the local National Salvation Front (FSN) Council.

Virgil Ardelean
Virgil Ardelean (born August 1, 1950) is a Romanian police chief, head of '' Direcţia Generală de Informaţii şi Protecţie Internă'' (DGIPI) between 1998 and 2007. Biography Ardelean was born in Pericei, Sălaj County. The village is populated by ethnic Hungarians and Roma; his mother had the Hungarian surname of Gábor, and Ardelean made efforts to conceal his background from the nationalist Communist regime of Nicolae Ceauşescu, within which he sought advancement. In 1974, he graduated from the police academy at Băneasa, in the counter-sabotage class of the economic police section. By 1989, he was deputy police chief of Cluj-Napoca, and on the day before Ceauşescu was toppled in that December's Revolution, his superior commanded him to take measures to preserve public order. Ion Iliescu (; born 3 March 1930) is a Romanian politician and engineer who served as President of Romania from 1989 until 1996 and from 2000 until 2004.
