Radio In Austria
History Pre-WWII The first radio transmissions in Austria started in 1924 in Vienna. Programming started with classical music, daily news were not allowed to be broadcast to protect the newspaper producers. However, near the end of the 1920s, the political influence started to affect the medium radio as well. After 1933, Germany started transmitting propaganda directed at Austria, which was countered by the local radio stations. After Austria joined Germany in 1938, the Austrian radio stations became part of the German radio network. Post-WWII After the end of World War II, the studio was located inside the Soviet occupation zone, so the programming had a small but noticeable Soviet influence. The other three occupation forces started their own programming as well, which competed with each other causing a huge variety of different radio stations for that time. Sendeanlage Bisamberg
The Sendeanlage Bisamberg ( Bisamberg transmission facility) was an Austrian medium wave transmission facility built in 1933 and demolished on February 24, 2010. The original transmitter was destroyed at the end of World War II, but was later rebuilt. It had two guyed steel framework masts, one with a height of 265 metres and another with a height of 120 metres. Both masts were insulated against ground. The higher mast, which was the tallest construction of Austria before demolition, was designed for use on 585 kHz, while the smaller one was designed for 1476 kHz. From January 1, 1995 to July 1, 1997, the installation was shut down, with the 1476 kHz transmitter being reactivated on July 1, 1997. The masts were demolished with controlled explosions on February 24, 2010; this decision by the city of Vienna was based on the fact that maintenance of the technologically obsolete masts as historical monuments would have been too costly. Aldrans is a municipality in the Innsbruck-Land District, Tyrol (state), Tyrol (Austria) at an altitude of , which had an area of and 2,496 inhabitants as January 2015. Geography The village is on a highlands terrace southeast of Innsbruck, crossed by numerous river valleys, below the Patscherkofel (). Austropop
Austropop is pop music from Austria, which came into use in the late 1960s, but had its heyday in the 1970s and early and up until the mid-1980s. Austropop comprises several musical styles, from traditional pop music to rock, and it also sometimes includes traditional folk elements such as yodeling. Neue Deutsche Welle does not count as Austropop, as it was definitely German and the lyrics were in Standard German, while Austropop artists made a distinction by decidedly using Austrian dialects for their lyrics. The movement is believed to have started in 1971 by Wolfgang Ambros with his song " Da Hofa", although this is debated. Ambros became famous, however, by translating songs by Bob Dylan into Austrian German, the most famous of which is ''"Naa, i bins ned"'', the translation of Dylan's ''"It Ain't Me Babe "It Ain't Me Babe" is a song by Bob Dylan that originally appeared on his fourth album ''Another Side of Bob Dylan'', which was released in 1964 by Columbia Records. Blue Danube Radio (BDR) was an English-language radio station broadcast by the Österreichischer Rundfunk ( en, Austrian Broadcasting; ORF). History Blue Danube Radio went live on 23 August 1979, created principally for the United Nations community at UNO-City in Vienna. It was popular with many Austrian people too. The name "Blue Danube" was also previously used by the unrelated radio station operated by American Forces Network (AFN) and the 5th United States Army in the American-occupied zone of Austria between 1945 and 1955. From 1995, it shared airtime with FM4, which eventually completely took over on 1 February 2000.
