Rachael Sage (born Karen Rachael Weitzman in 1971) is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist. She is the founder of indie label MPress Records. Sage has released fourteen solo studio albums. Sage was named one of the Top 100 Independent Artists of the Past 15 Years by ''Performing Songwriter'' magazine. ''The New York Times'' describes Sage as "alternately channeling her inner Fanny Brice and Jewish Norah Jones". Early life Sage was born Karen Rachael Weitzman in 1971 in Port Chester, New York, to shoe designer Stuart Weitzman and his wife, Jane. Sage studied drama and ballet before switching to music. Port Chester is a village in the U.S. state of New York and the largest part of the town of Rye in Westchester County by population. In September 2021, an average of 47,916 people slept in New York City's homeless shelters each night. This included 18,236 single adults, 14,946 children, and 14,734 adults in families. The total number peaked in November 2018, with 63,636 people sleeping in homeless shelters. Since March 2020, the number of people sleeping in shelters has declined significantly, likely an effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. Righteous Babe Records is an American independent record label that was created by folk singer Ani DiFranco in 1990 to release her own songs in lieu of being beholden to a mainstream record company. History Righteous Babe Records was originally called Righteous Records; however, DiFranco then discovered a pre-existing gospel music label with that name, and to differentiate her company, added the "babe". Located in DiFranco's hometown of Buffalo, New York, the business grew organically, starting in 1990 with her first cassette tape.
